NOLA.com linky
I've always liked the oyster bar, but everything else about the place has been rather lacking for some time. I don't think I eaten in the dining room since the Brandt purchase.
I guess this transfer can't be a bad thing.

Hard to imagine a Brennan’s purchase being bad.

Its one of the few classic spots that I have just never been to.

Mr Bs bbq shrimp > Pascal’s manale bbq shrimp. PM supposedly invented the dish but I find it lacking compared to Mr Bs. What would be the uproar if the changed the recipe? Lol

I've only ever been to the oyster bar and I can say it is a classic. Dickie will only lift the rest of the place up to the oyster bar. Looking forward to it.

While you are right, they used to serve peeled BBQ shrimp inside of a hollowed 12" loaf of French Bread for lunch that was incredible. They would cut-off one end of the 12" loaf, peel out some of the bread, fill it with BBBQ shrimp, then pour the cooking liquid in. Unhealthy but delicious. Otherwise, Pascale's Manale was average, IMO. Hopefully, the Brennan's can revive the old gal.

Good group to take it over and quality should remain high
Better than ending up in someone else's hands

Certainly cant be worse. Not the right Brennan's group, but the Brandt family has just collected a paycheck.
That building needs updating as bad as the menu does.

Yeah, it's hard to figure out what that whole deal was about, but I think they bought it right before Ray Brandt died, and it's been just sort of tied up in a bigger succession fight with the family ever since.
I guess it's something of an accomplishment that they were even able to just keep it up and running.

The last time we ate there, the bbq shrimp were swimming in a bowl of oil with some flecks of black pepper. The shrimp were beautiful, but lacking flavor. So much oil.
The Rockefeller sauce there is one of the best in town. Years ago, you could also get crabmeat Rockefeller as an entree. It came in a gratin dish with jumbo lump crabmeat on the bottom and the sauce on top. Gosh it was good.

I have been twice in the last six months and was pleasantly surprised with both meals. I think this is a positive move.

Brennan’s outbid the Creole Cuisine folks. Probably a good thing for Manale’s

I should have figured they might be trying to get their hands on it, but it's absolutely a good thing.

I would think so. Bring in some revamps, but stay true to brand. Won't see 5 locations pimpin' Nawlins style xyz.

Took a group there in December. We ordered pretty much the entire menu and buffeted it. It was a pleasant experience and the food was good. As mentioned the bbq shrimp are just ok. Some of the fish dishes were a tad heavy, but tasted fine. Surprisingly they had some really nice veal dishes, including the marsala which was my favorite dish of the night. I can't imagine being taken over by DB&C will do anything but help jazz it up some.

I hope they keep Liz at the bar and Uptown T at the oyster bar. They are the reasons more than half of the regulars keep going there.

The Italian side has always been good. The fried mozz app is super good.
