heading to the casinos this weekend and want a break from the bad buffet food. I'm partial to Ralph and Kakoo's, but I'm open to suggestions

Thanks!

You would enjoy Jan’s River Restaurant.

He said the wife doesn't eat fried foods, so that would limit choices there.

I have not tried The Levee, but it sounds interesting. Checks all the hipster boxes. Locally owned, farm to table, vegan options, etc.

Lucky Palace was mentioned. Make a reservation if you choose it.

Mabry House. Fine dining in an old Highland home converted to a restaurant. This will take most of the evening but is worth it. Make a reservation.

Wine Country (Shreveport) and Two Johns (Bossier) are nice places that would likely please a wife who doesn't eat fried food. TJ is a steak place; WC has more variety. Reservations recommended.

If you don't mind a little drive, it up Franks Louisiana Kitchen. 15 minutes or so from downtown down 49.

I love The Levee, but I wish they would get real tables.

Mabry is solid, yet unspectacular. It akin to dining in my Grandma's house, if you enjoy that setting.

L'Italiano is another solid suggestion.

I'll also suggest Ki Mexico and Franks, as those 2 are our favorites and most often in our rotation.

Not anymore, but I did when I was a kid. Stayed with grandparents after school growing up and that’s what they used.

Haven't done Levee yet but have done Chef's table at Mabry and have been l'italiano a bunch. If you are wanting Italian, l'italiano is really good. If not, Mabry is the choice.

I would throw El Cabo Verde in the mix as well. It is out in BFE - on Southern Loop in the Provenance neighborhood - but it is exceptional. It is really good, not fancy, but the there is some vibe there. I would move it up the list if I were you.

Someone mentioned Ki Mexico - one of my favorite places, but I don't usually eat in, its a hipster joint, pink plastic chairs, beards, fedoras etc - but food is fabulous. I live 3 minutes away in South Highlands so we just pick up from there - in other words not long on atmosphere, but I would recommend anyone coming to Shreveport try this place at some time.

Silver Star in the Kroger Marketplace area (whatever that is called) out on Ellerbe Rd. @ Flournoy Lucas, I believe is superior to Country Tavern, thought the two have the same pedigree. Very good BBQ and steaks are way underrated - it is not fancy, but its nice enough for a date night and you won't feel like you are slumming. Bar are is plus there.

I've never had a bad meal at L'Italiano or Mabry. I would shoot for the chef's table at Mabry but it's probably too late for that.
