It’s that time of year again. Still some available spots open.

The Red Stick Roux Rally is a Gumbeaux Cook-off hosted by KIDS to benefit Youth Oasis, a local children’s homeless shelter. The event will consist of an onsite Gumbeaux cooking competition amongst local amateur cooking teams, live music and entertainment and culminate with a "Best Gumbeaux" and “People’s Choice” awarded to the winners . We will be hosting the event on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in downtown Baton Rouge, LA. Admission will be $10 at the door and will include drink specials and all the Gumbeaux you can eat. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. No outside food or beverages will be permitted. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Youth Oasis.

Bump for an update. Construction has moved the event to Lafayette/North right by Tsunami.

I’m kinda okay with the move. It was too cramped last year.

There are many changes to the judging from last year. There will be a double-blind entry, where judges or the committee will not know whose gumbo they are judging and picking for the winner. They are also bringing back categories, there will be a chicken and sausage, cajun combo, and seafood category along with best overall. They are also including more experienced local chefs as judges, the goal was to have atleast 6 experienced chefs with over 50 years combined culinary experience to grade the gumbos. Its going to be a great year for the Roux Rally!

Why can't they just spell it the right way without the 'eaux'?? I'm getting sick of the bastardization. Sneaux Day was the worst.

I know, right, the word gumbo is cajun enough without adding eaux to the end of it. Maybe they wanted to brand it different than regular gumbo since it was being made right down the street from LSU. Either way, I am all against bastardizations, how do we put a stop to them?

I agree. I give a slight edge to the Jambalaya Jam, though, due to the fact that it also has a lunch time anything goes hor dourves competition. It’s fun to walk down the street and get free bacon wrapped shrimp, chargrilled oysters, and pistolettes.

Can’t wait! Making my trip for sausage and andouille Friday. Gonna have about 1/2 of our team from last year. Hopefully, everything turns out as good as last years cause it’ll be twice as crazy trying to do everything.

I was on a team. We placed second overall. I had a blast. I was basically a carnival barker once we’d finished the gumbo.

We had given over 10 gallons away when other people still had plenty.

People loved it

It’s too bad that space is just temporary while the other spot is under construction because I thought that was a perfect setup.

The BASF (and a few other companies) tent had what I thought was hands down the best one.

Hard to tell cause the location moved due to the library construction...but there was a very good crowd.
