given the timing, they could have already told their employees they planned on closing and then every stopped giving a damn.

We went after the rehearsal dinner Thursday night too and i seem to remember the two bartenders being really salty. At the time i just thought she was a bitch.

Tried finding it, I think I may have come across $150,000 deal to get the old Fox and Hound location?

I lived in BR for the first 23 years of my life. After spending the last 3 living in other cities, I can tell you that the more things change the more they stay the same in that town.

The people who went to Roux House and Lucy's will probably still go to these new places, because the downtown BR crowd tends to always go out to downtown BR (they don't have many other legitimate options). Things will eventually slide back into the way they were after a short period of time at each establishment.

high-end cocktails

High-end is such a subjective, unoriginal and over-used term.

Seriously tired of going in these places and being asked what is in that "Manhattan" drink I ordered. Recently had a child waiting on me in a "cocktail" establishment who tried to argue that ordering it "up" meant on the rocks and shaken. Which is how he described it when I asked him what he thought UP menant. I followed up with "Well then tell me what "on the rocks" means and what is "shaken?" He got confused and went to ask someone.

I don't understand rebranding the Roux House. I think adding a gastropub element and a retractable roof is a good idea which could work, but there's no reason to significantly alter the look or name of the bar. The concept works, why change it?

Lucy's on the other hand...

I'm trying to figure out what that is and I don't think its Fox and Hound. For one, Fox and Hound is about 10,000 square feet, for two I think they opened before 2003. This sounds like it was a nightclub space where they put in a restaurant. (Plus, the Fox and Hound chain pulled the plug on the joint, it wasn't a case of someone defaulting on a lease.) I wonder if it's not The Station or Triple A or one of those clubs on Bennington.

Might not be working as much as you think. If it was working, they wouldn't be doing all of this

Why can't BR sustain any good restaurants?

Does Chelsea's count as "failing"?

It was certainly a good restaurant.

No. The landlord apparently never wanted to fix anything. I think the main thing was the roof.

I'm sure some other poster could explain better but Chelsea's was not hurting for business

Yeah, apparently it was a monthly lease, so the owner and landlord were having monthly disputes about price and repairs. The owner decided enough is enough and would rather focus on his other businesses than deal with the headache every month.

Landlords are such scum. Arent they required to fix basic necessity? Shouldn't the landlord in the case of Chelsea's want to fix some things for a business that inst hurting and pays the rent.

Another bar I go to is apparently having the same disputes with their landlord over roofing fixes.
