Downtown BR has made great strides, but it was a ghost town the last time I was there at night. Need more apartments/condos down there, stat. IBM sounds like another subsidy sh*tshow, so hopefully someone like Wampold will add more units.

ETA: Once more apartments are built, there will be less turnover.

Not sure if it's just me, but I thought this would have more steak than sizzle. People were expecting much more from this project.

I've never been to Lava Cantina, but isn't its crowd typically older demographic similar to Cadillac Cafe? Seems a far cry from what Lucy's was, however that place never seemed to even try very hard.

Roux House is a solid concept with a great building. The indoor/outdoor component will always make it a good place to hang out downtown.

I wish some cool places would open up around Government Street so I don't have to drive as far.

Imo, not really.

I always thought of Cadillac as some crappy bar where the post 40 crowd went to act like college kids.

Lava is just a restaurant in perkins Rowe. The clientele varied the two times I have eaten there. I would definitely put it above Lucy's if we were ranking them

Govt has Radio Bar for the younger crowd and Phil Brady's for the old fogies. I'm not sure if the new Curbside will have a bar element, but the midcity beer garden should be legit.

For music, the guru, the pit n peal, phil brady's, and nearby Bee Nice concerts, Dyson House, and Brew-ha-ha all have you covered.

The problem with Baton Rouge nightlife in a nutshell. Plenty of stuff for college aged people and for those 45 and up. Nothing for 27-40 year olds.

There's plenty of places for people 45 and up? Huh?

For the 27-40 crowd, which is sort of a weird starting age- Bulldog, Chimes, CBD, The Merchant, Radio Bar, Duvics, Ivars, Olive or Twist, and that's just places in one part of town.

Are Superior and Rum House "Going out for drinks" type places? Lock & Key isn't bad, but its location sure is.

I wish Oliver Twist didn't suck. I wouldn't mind going to a concept like that regularly.

What sucks about it?

It's one of the better bars in the city imo

love the concept. hate the music (too loud and not always appropriate for that concept) and the few times I've been the crowd there has been very loud and highly intoxicated. Almost like I should be at City Bar or something.

Maybe I should try a happy hour

Ivars seems like it's turning into a college bar these days. Used to be late 20's-30's. Much younger crowd last time I went.

I've only heard music like that once and it was rap on a weekend night. It was out of place though. Coincidentally there were a bunch of shite faced people there.

This was 1 out of probably 20 visits though

Try happy hour imo

I live around the corner from Curbside. I hear they're going to have a good beer selection. And they're promoting "adult milkshakes" on the Facebook page. Nick Hufft has a hand in The Overpass Merchant and they have a good beer selection. And he was involved with Barcadia and they have an OK beer selection.
