Rally Cap Brewing Company to Begin Operations in Baton Rouge
New Facility to House Production Brewery and Taproom
BATON ROUGE, LA – November 28, 2017 – Rally Cap Brewing Company is proud to announce that it has
secured a lease and will begin renovation of a property which will house its production brewery and
taproom. The 9,400 sq. ft. facility is located in the Industriplex Area of Baton Rouge at 11212
Pennywood Ave.
Construction on the sports-themed brewery will begin this winter, with an opening planned for
summer of 2018. The brewery will feature a 15 barrel brewing system designed to accommodate future
growth, which is expected to include wholesale distribution. A 2,000 sq. ft. taproom, as well a
sizeable outdoor patio area, will remain true to its original industrial design, but will also
include a number of large screen UHD TVs designed to allow to guests to root for their favorite
team while they enjoy a handcrafted beer.
Rally Cap Brewing was founded by Kevin Whalen, former Vice President of Casino Operations at
L’Auberge Casino Hotel Baton Rouge. A long-time homebrewer, Whalen is anxious to contribute to the
growing craft beer culture in the Baton Rouge Area, noting “our beer is ‘hand crafted for the home
team’ and our home team is the Baton Rouge community”.
The tap room will feature a wide range of continually rotating beers, however Whalen considers
Rally Cap to be a hop-centric brewery. “We love our hoppy beers, from the traditional West Coast
IPA to the hazy juice bombs that have become incredibly popular. That being said, we plan to brew
a wide variety of styles and expect all of our guests to be able to find a brew that fits their
taste.” Whalen noted.
Rally Cap plans to document its journey from a brewery in planning to a fully operational brewery.
Prior to the publication of its main website, the brewery will share regular updates on its blog –
LINK Progress can also be followed on Rally Cap’s various social media
accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, all using the handle @Rallycapbrewing.

Is that a press release or an article?
If it's a press release, it would concern me that they talked about their TVs before they talked about their beer.

Eh, they mentioned their 15 barrel brewing system and the fact that the space would have a large taproom.

I think the location sucks for the style of place they're going for, but the rest sounds fine. Tailgate Brewery here in Nashville is similar and they make money hand over fist.

I think the location is fine. Parish, St. Arnold, NOLA, Karbach and Wiseacre are in similar warehouse type areas. You want cheap land and the setup to brew, bottle and distribute beer. People will go out of their way to visit a good brewery. And you can get all those guys who work in the area to duck in for a beer and watch a game.
(My one gripe is I wish it was closer to my house. Especially now that Noble Wave flaked out of the market. Come on Le Chien. Set up shop in Mid City!)

I hope they hit a home run.
At this point, I'll even be OK with a ground rule double here in BR.

I don't know how highly thought of they are, but I really enjoy their peanut butter stout.

I like Hyla. It's a good beer. Happy to see it canned. The rest of the offerings just don't really interest me though. They've had some other decent one off beers, but it's a decent trek for me to get to their taproom to try them out.

Yeh... hyla is their best beer. I think they need to do so something different with pompous. I like the guys and I hit it up a couple times a month... but, the same 3 taps get old. Which is why I only go a couple times a month.
Also.... and I know they are limited where they are, but man they need to do something with the tap room.
That being said... I’d welcome another place near the house! They would be within what, 3 miles from each other. Which would create good competition which should make for better beers....
I assume...

I don't have a problem with a brewery being in a light industrial locations, but rather a light industrial area fairly far out from the center of town. Wiseacre, Nola, and St. Arnold are all very much in the city. Parish, while a good ways out, isn't touting their taproom as a a big happy hour or hangout spot outside of a few events.
Maybe it's just their press release that confuses me about the location. It's a great location for a production brewery, but I still think it's a bad location as a hang-out brewery - made even more confusing because of the BS "laws" in LA differentiating between production and brew pub and what can and can't take place at certain facilities.
It would be cool if Rally Cap could get that Industrialplex blue-collar happy hour crowd after they punch out. I wish them the best, and if it's good beer I'll go when I'm in town, but it'll be hard convincing my more urban, less-maveny friends to go out there and watch games. That's an expensive ride-share out there and back in.
And I'm with you on a good brewery setting up shop in Midcity.
I'd spend a lot of time there while visiting BR and avoiding inlaws.

Yeah because there are so many brewery options in BR that you can choose to be picky.

No commercial brewing experience is generally a bad thing. You don't just scale up that 5 gallon ipa your friends love to 15 barrels by multiplying 5 by 31*15. Some folks make it work but a lot just sale horrible beer hoping to dial it in before they go broke.
Lots of rumors of places being for sale here in Denver. I think we are starting to hit critical mass.

People will go out of their way if there are not equal/better options closer, 40 Arpent had a problem in New Orleans area because people were not going out of way when Courtyard, NOLA, Urban South, and others are way closer. But Baton Rouge does not currently have the same comoetition so maybe it can work out for Rally Cap.

What???? You have Tin Roof, Southern Craft, and BJ's Brewhouse.... Check out that competition

Damn; from where?
I've always found Uber-ing all over BTR to be really inexpensive.

Nah, but I can choose to go to a bar instead that carries plenty of great beer from all around.
