Raisins in bread pudding is a nope for me.
Gumbo on potato salad is meh. I don’t dislike it but rice is much better.

Raisins in bread pudding is one of the only places they belong. Potato salad in gumbo is amazing, though I’m not a fan of it as a substitute for rice.

Putting potato salad in gumbo is an assault on everything I like about gumbo. Raisins in bread pudding are off radar. Don’t care.

Raisins are an abomination unto the Lord. If you have extra grapes, you make wine, not raisins. I don't remember ever having communion raisins.
I'll let you pass on the potato salad in gumbo because a spoon of potato salad dipped in gumbo is delicious, but the technique is improper.

Always put raising in my bread pudding. I also make potato salad for gumbo and do so by starting them off boiling the potatoes in seafood boil for some instant flavor.
I'll put my rice in the bowl, cover it with gumbo and sometimes top it off with a nice spoonful of potato salad, but not always. Sometimes it's nice to just eat the gumbo without all that extra stuff in it to enjoy the taste of that delicious dish.

I won't turn down bread pudding just because it has raisins in it; but I never put them in when I'm making it at home.

Anyone giving specific rules for bread pudding is just being stupid. Throw whatever you have in there and see what works.
