You sure about that? What brand is that?
Umm its the JJ Watt, Giancarlo shite. I can't think of the name and can't find it online.
I think that's what I read this morning. I'll check again tonight.
Def has some kind of BCAA content.

Sorry, I couldn't let this slide. In no way is this true. In one sentence he mentions your body runs on ketones, but then it could be bad after a set time? That makes no sense
Not defending him, but I think what he meant was that doing his own personal, strict keto diet (which only consists of you eating a total of about 10-12 foods and rigorous training, 2 times a day, 6 days a week, not including 3-4 cardio sessions a day) is bad for you long term because you are not getting enough nutrients to keep your brain fully functioning over a long period of time
I'm not a nutritionist but I do come VERY close to his keto diet and training, and I wouldn't recommend doing it long term.

Keto isn't this strict.

Be specific, to which nutrients are you referring too? Which essential nutrients do you not get by following such?

I know
His personal one is that strict
And I adapted my own which consist of about 20 foods total

I don't know. I've never done his version. I can only say what I've read on his Q&A blog back in 2009
I can tell you from my version, I don't get enough Omega 3's, Vitamin C, Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K from my diet alone.

A well formulated keto diet provides all of these.

Dear Diary
I cheated all of Lent. Sorry.
Yung Humma
In all seriousness, I wasn't strict at all about what I ate and drank. Looking back at my last post in this thread looks like I lost another 2 pounds but that was over such a long time period.
Looking to cut back on added sugar and lower the carb count but not to the level that all of yall are doing. The main thing is all of the weight I've lost has been through diet alone and in my opinion I'm starting to just look pudgy so I'm going to be mainly focusing on adding exercise.
Needed to get back into this thread.

I looked into his diet this morning because I love to know things...
There is no problem eating that much protein. Excess protein does not cause increased GNG. This knocking you out of ketosis is a MYTH. Your ketones will lower, but not disappear. 0.5mmol is still ketosis. There was a podcast about excess protein that I want to dig up. Might have been an article.
Some studies providing excess protein and gng.
In conclusion, after a high-protein diet, GNG was increased and appetite was lower compared with a normal-protein diet; however, these were unrelated to each other. An increased concentration of ß-hydroxybutyrate may have contributed to appetite suppression on the high-protein diet.
Humans ingest more protein (amino acids) than they need for replacement of endogenous proteins. These excess amino acids can not be stored and thus are catabolized (metabolized).
In sum, then, there is no evidence that we could find that consuming excess protein will increase glucose production from GNG. On the other hand, there is much suggestive evidence that it does not. (See references at the bottom of the article)
He cuts calories by cutting the fat macro down. I don't care for this, because fat makes the world go round on keto. I am still seriously questioning why we try to use calories to track food anyway.
What I really don't like are the carb refeeds (from what I quickly read). I mean, I guess you can let your inner fat kid roar once a week. You won’t like the weekly drops in your mood if you do. Your body adapts to using less glucose while adapting to ketosis, which is why most people see a drop in performance for up to 4-6 weeks. After this time has passed, no noticeable deduction in performance is found.
I would love to read where you read about the brain being starved over time, can you provide a link for me? It is just my curious nature.

I had been pretty strict keto for a while, and went to more of a if lean gains type diet recently. the big carb feeds after workouts appear to be putting some mass on certain areas. good mass.

Cool bro. What are refeeds if you mind me asking?
I am mostly going after the "ketosis starves the brain" comment.

I have no idea what "re-feeds" are alluded to above, I thought you doubted whether some form of carb cycling had other potential benefits. If I were to argue that prolonged ketosis has no effect on the brain, I'd probably start with an analysis of the Masai tribe, or another similar group who have relied on a single food groud (in this case dairy) for all of their calories for a prolonged period. However, I have no idea if their intelligence has been affected.

I do keto, but I do my own, stricter version of it
I have been messing with keto diets since my second show in 2009
I created my own that works for me and gets me to where I need to be on stage

I don't even like taking my shorts off in the gym to change into my bathing suit. I don't like other people looking at my wiener. Not sure how you get on stage knowing everybody is staring at your junk and whatnot.
