We got a sticky!

I made a version of sausage balls into a healthier breakfast muffin this morning. They are delicious. If anyone wants the recipe I can post it when I get home.

I have hit my first mini-plateau this weekend and it has been bugging me today. Reviewed everything I have eaten since Thursday and discovered by sodium intake was huge.

Been eating pretty good, I just need to find some warm weather to get out in the AM and exercise in. And if I can get through the wife's business opening on Thursday, I'll be on the right road. Until then, 1400 calories or less and whatever I can manage for cardio.

Day 1 of P90X. I've started the diet today and tonight will be the first real workout.

I'm sitting right on 245 even this morning, so we'll see what happens. For this, I had to take all of my measurements which is just sad! Also had to take a "before" photo. Wish I could just skip ahead to the "after"!

I'll keep yall posted on how it does for me if anyone is interested. Sounds like it will be 90 days of torture...

Had a bit of a meltdown yesterday and ate 3 portions of my red beans and sausage.

thanks to you talking about it last week, i put a big pot of red beans and sausage working in the slow cooker before i left the house this morning .. now i have to just resist the temptation not to eat three portions myself ..

btw, when you say portions .. how big are the portions you are talking about ?? not the deck of playing cards portion .. huh ?

if you can somehow monitor and cut your sodium to under 2000mg a day total, it will make a huge difference because, as you know, the sodium has you retaining water which "contaminates" your numbers on the scale .. then, you cut back today and tomorrow and you get on the scale on wednesday and you are down 6 pounds all of a sudden because of the water loss ... there are a couple of seasonings on the market that mc cormick's makes -- i get them at albertson's -- that are really good and sodium free ... also, use a lot of pepper, it has no sodium .. also garlic cloves in your cooking ... ANYTHING you eat out of a can is loaded with sodium because salt is a preservative .. remember, the pirates used to pack their meats in salt ...

it is convenient, but stop eating out of a can .. fresh fresh fresh .. make it yourself ... also, pretty much anything you eat at a restaurant or fast food joint has insane sodium in it .. they salt the bejesus out of food for taste ... you would be floored if you saw how much sodium there is in just one teaspoon of table salt ... but hang in there .. you can do it ...

well the sausage portion is tiny. I basically use whatever portion size is on the sausage packaging.

Sometimes, I double the meat but that means lots of sodium since sausage has anywhere from 400 to 600 mgs per serving.

This time I doubled the meat and I have one cup of the beans. Based on how I cook them, that breaks down to roughly 640 calories and 950mgs of sodium per serving.

Most of the time when I make this, I only have one serving of meat and 1/2 a cup of the beans. So most of the time it is only about 320 cal and 475 mgs sodium.

When I make the large portion beans, I drop my normal cheese snack and my normal cheese in my eggs so I still come in under 1500 mgs of sodium on the day.

That is if I stick to one portion which I certainly did not do yesterday. Damn things tasted too damn good.

Back to bland chicken that I don't want to have more than one portion of.

i'm doing just the opposite..of course i sweat out about 2 cups of salt over the course of a 4 hour bike ride. i need my sodium.

whats gross is the salt marks on my helmet straps and headband..when it dries it literally rubs off like white powder.

Breakfast Muffins

2 cups Jimmy Dean turkey sausage crumbles
3/4 cup skim milk
1/2 cup reduced fat sharp cheddar
2 cups Bisquick Heart Smart
salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray muffin pan. Combine all ingredients and fill muffin tin. Bake for about 16 minutes until a light golden brown.

I will also try shaping these into balls and serving them for an appetizer.

Naa.... there are no GOOD and sodium free mixes. There are a few that are tolerable.

The Mrs. Dash Basil and Tomato is tolerable. As is the garlic one.

I use TONS of cayenne to hide the lack of flavor with heat. Since most of my food is fresh, I use some sodium on Sriracha. Also just started using wasabi horseradish that has about 35mgs per teaspoon.

keeping sodium under 1500 mgs is a real pain in the a.

22 lbs in one month?! don't get too gung ho at the start..like you said you're in it for the long haul so its more important to settle into a way of eating you can do indefinitely than a massive drop at first.

studies show people get burned out if they try to take it too fast leading to setbacks. you'll get there..but don't try & keep that pace up or you'll kill yourself.

a year to lose what you put on over the past 7-8 is a good trade-off. plus that gives you 365 days to ease into new routines and new eating habits and they're more likely to last long-term.

good luck! you got alot of support here.

i can see someone losing up to 30 pounds in 30 days after initially starting a diet .. especially if they cut way down on sodium and carbs with a good metabolism ... you will drop 10 pounds in water weight alone in prolly the first week ... i know a number of people that lost anywhere from 15-20 pounds after their first two-week induction on the atkins diet ... of course, this metoric pace will slow dramatically and the ones that are successful are the ones tht push through it .. the others get either discourage or complacent, thinking they can just drop 20 pounds whenever they want to and start eating bad again .. problem is that the older they get, the slower the metabolism and age injuries start to kick in which limits their exercise ....

I lost 19 or 20 the first month. About 6 months in I had a 15 pound drop over two weeks.

Now it is a struggle to lose 3 ounces. My damn body is just refusing to drop any weight.
