There is one caveat with MFP: The cardio calorie counter can be ridiculous. It tells me I burn 300 calories by walking for 45 minutes Best bet is to not eat the extra allowance it gives for exercise

i use run keeper app to track distance and approximate calories burned. Or what the treadmill says.

I know what you mean though. this morning I burned 307 calories(on treadmill) but MFP defaults were saying I should have burned 450ish

I hate that it only counts caloric burn for cardio.. as if my strength training burns 0 calories. If anything, strength training burns more and requires you to eat more.

But yes.. the only way to get an accurate idea of how many cals youre burning is a heart rate monitor that includes that. Nike makes a good one for liek $50 IIRC

I don't think the calorie count on my elliptical is accurate. It showed I burned 300 calories for 35 minutes of a mostly light workout. My Polar heart rate monitor showed 185 calories burned. Big difference!

Ellipticals are very very inaccurate

People think they are burning way more than they are then wondering where the weightloss is

Be cautious and don't use the calories burn as an excuse to eat more food

Bingo Bango.

Yes you can do it with both but you make it MUCH harder because the workouts will make you hungry.

323/176/159.9

Flawless week. First flawless week I have had in a couple of month. Now if I can just have another no cheat weekend I should be well on my way back below 170.

176 pissed me off this morning. 1.5 pound gain for no apparent reason.

I had one small piece of hamburger steak with salad yesterday at the office free lunch. I guess that damn piece of meat had even more salt than normal. I know it is just a water bounce but I was not expecting a gain this morning.

I was all set to head under 174 and boom, damn scale hits me with a 1.5 gain, the stinker.

Oh well. Another good day today except for a few handfuls of pistachio nuts.

Still clocked in under 1500 calories or close to that.

I eat less and I'm hungry. I workout and eat the same amount I may be a little hungrier ,but you just have to get over it, and not stuff your face .Maybe that's easy for me to say but if you want to lose weight , you'll have to accept it. Once you reach your goal you can accept a happy medium.

I think you need to find a balance. For example, I started lifting weights seriously again a month ago. I was really enjoying it at first but I started adding too many different things and it took the joy out of it. So I decided last week to stop lifting for a while. I basically went back to what I started with the first two months of the diet and that is just walking and running. I've started seeing consistent weight loss again.

Here is the thing with weight training, yes it does burn calories but the point is to get bigger. To get bigger you have to fuel yourself more. Fueling yourself more doesn't really play too well with trying to lose weight. I'm certainly not saying it's impossible, a lot of people do it. I think for me I'm just going to wait til I get down to a more ideal weight and then start lifting again.

11.5 pounds from goal. Interestingly this is one of the last weights I can remember being in high school before I stopped caring about how much I weighed.

LE, I didn't say don't exercise or that diet and exercise are mutually exclusive.

This is where I feel I am at now. I've been doing straight cardio for 9 mos and am looking forward to lifting again

Got away from granny's bday with no cheats.. Grilled pork chops and sausage, grilled zucchini, grilled squash, and cucumbers.. not a bad meal imo.

Well I got my bad eating out of the way tonight, going to be a good boy the rest of the weekend. I'm going back to one cheat meal a week. I made huge burgers with tater tots and has a couple beers. I'm content.

I need Annie to hobble me so I can't run to my car to get some ice cream.

The ice cream bug is in control of my brain at the moment.

Maybe foil will work....

I love this scale at Windsor Court. 7 lb drop overnight.. or maybe it was all the fried oysters, shrimp and onion rings last night at Grand Isle. It's my new miracle weight loss plan.

Sure. Just like I love the blood pressure machine at Sam's in Metairie with the readings 20 points lower than anywhere else.

LOL, I sense a road trip in my future. I need the self esteem boost from that scale. Also, I should probably buy a scale.

The first week hasn't been so bad. Lots of chicken, vegetables, that kind of thing. I have cut back on carbs but not eliminated them entirely. Just traded fries for baked potatoes, that kind of thing. If any of you have Ore Ida stock, this would be a good time to dump it.

Three weeks in is when I usually get bored and hang it up. Hopefully, I'll be able to get past that this time since I have actual health related motivation.
