You're talking to me like I'm fresh out of the gate again.. I know that you don't "turn fat into muscle".
I'm just dropping it.

Went up a little bit, not surprised. I went off at dinner last night. Time to really buckle down. I'm doing a fast until dinner tonight and I'm back on the straight and narrow. I've hit the one month mark and I'm trying to keep in mind that one month ago I was twenty pounds heavier.

that wasnt directed at you; just pointing out a few examples of the stupid things people say that aren't true about dieting.

Cant believe i didnt post in here.
Started P90X on Jan 23 at 186. 75 days into it (Around April 10), I tore my right shoulder labrum. Weighed 161.
Doc says no curls/pushup/presses for 6-8 weeks. We are currently 4 weeks into my "layoff" - and my shoulder still hurts. I was at 165 yesterday. My goal this whole time was 155.
I plan to start it back up when my shoulder feels better..... But need to really rehab it right, which I have not been doin.
Had the ambition to try Insanity in July. Maybe thats on hold

Mothers day weekend damage wasn't to bad. Managed to hold my same weight. First 5k this Saturday in 10 years. Training has been going well.

boss, See's CAD's advice above. now is when you'll have better pure weight loss if diet is controlled. Last summer I had a stinger with the same restrictions on exercise and lost 5 lbs on diet alone.

last math problem for the day
PERSON A
running for an hour yields 600 net calorie loss
365 days in a year
52 weeks in a year
run 6 out of 7 days (take one day off!) for an HOUR yields roughly 310 hours of running (god in heaven)
weight loss (assuming no additional food is consumed because you're hungry from running 6 hours a week): roughly 50-52lbs all things staying constant. (3600 calories deficit a week = 1lb loss) * 52 weeks.
*****
*****
*****
PERSON B
stays same weight consuming 2400 calories a day (this is realistic for most people over 200lbs)
cuts back 1000 calories a day (eats 1400)
does ZERO exercise
takes ZERO days off (you dont need to 'take a day off' from eating less LMAO!)
in a year loses 104lbs! (obviously BMR slows down) by 7000 calorie deficit (2 lbs) each week * 52 weeks
person B has to do zero exercise.
ta da!
also, consider getting into a ketogenic state with the 1400 calories you consume by following atkins = TURBO FATLOSS BOOST
i can cut my grass with a pair of scissors..right? but isn't it easier to user a lawnmower?

So now it is an argument about which is more beneficial. Not that exercise is irrelevant to weight loss.
Has anyone said otherwise or you are just hearing yourself talk?

Okay, so Cad what if I did the above and below scenario together? Wouldn't I lose more weight by adding in the exercise? Granted, I'm not doing anything that extreme, but it's still contributing to a calorie deficit if I'm not adding any calories as a result of the exercise.
Cad, I really respect you and your opinions. I've read this entire thread and you have helped me with things you have said and you have helped many here, but I don't get your fascination with this one point. I can't think of one person who has said to exercise and not restrict calories. (Or at least that doesn't seem to be the prevailing opinion.)
I know you use yourself as an example but you admit that yours is extreme. If you are going to put forth the amount of effort that you do you have no choice but to add calories to your diet. That's not how it is with everyone, especially if they are following a moderate exercise program.

Is the Kumbaya moment over???
didn't even bother to weigh this morning, mothers day dinner wasn't bad but I just had to have that damn homemade choc cake and ice cream, on top of my regular weekend cheats

i'm not anti-exercise but i think it has the opposite effect on weightloss simply due to being more hungry after strenuos workouts.
i weighed 195 March 2011 before i started 'riding my arse off' as some have put it on here.
i weighed in at 193 this morning.
everyone thinks i got from 257lbs to 195 because i 'ride my arse off'. i lost the weight before i pulled the bike off the ceiling and dusted the 7-years worth of dust off it.
but nothing could be further from the truth. training and riding hard makes me hungry and the only time i seem to be able to lose weight is when i take a couple weeks off from the training.
lester thinks i just want to brag about how much riding i do, but that's not the point. the point is that i am getting shite-tons of exercise and its not causing any significant weight loss.
no, i'm not eating triple whoppers either. i just stopped losing weight when i started training hard.
i have over a year's worth of data; i averaged riding 181 miles a week for over a year now so you can't use the argument i'm not working out hard or being consistent. this is the very definition of hard work and consistency.
i've seen my FTP (functional power threshold) jump by nearly 40 watts and my endurance is higher and my resting heart rate is 48 bpm now.
all great stuff..except it hasn't done a single thing to help me lose any additional weight.

how much would you like to weight? Did you lose fat and add muscle weight during this time? Has your % body fat gone down?

The day When you realize that not everyone is the same, is the day you will become enlightened.
You really don't know how ridiculous you sound when you keep repeating this stuff about your own personal workouts. Then saying exercise has NOTHING to with weight loss because you don't lose weight when you ride your bike.
You keep repeating it; yes it does sound like bragging, unless you are truly that oblivious. No one is impressed by your wattage and mileage. Most can't even comprehend it.

I understand the increased appetite after strenuous workouts, but could you resist the urge to eat more and continue the work outs? I am not suggesting going from lets say 1,500 cal w/ no work out to only 1,600 cal, but just a little bit more should still yield some results.

I have no idea what the increase in watts really means. The other information is a great accomplishment IMO. I guess only people who ride bikes can understand the watts.
In other nonrelated news, I signed up for Fat Boy 5K in NOLA on May 27. I haven’t run a 5k yet, but the training is making this whole experience addicting. The runners high is a real thing in case anyone was wanting to know.

Today's workout:
Mowing an acre and a half lawn.
Okay, I cheated, we have a riding lawn mower. But there was much, much weedeating to be done. Altogether took me a long arse time.. I started at about 10 and finished at about 3:30.. no breaks.. I'm tired..
