another miracle drop to pre-weekend weight.

As to this thread, its not about the length, its about the girth.

I'm beginning to think I never actually got to 273, stupid old scale. Maybe this is a new low. Or maybe I should use this as a new low.

The lbs are coming of this week. One more pre race run in the morning, and a rest day on Friday. Looking at the data I've collected on durations and speed, I'm hope to be somewhere in the 26 min range, but it could be closer to 27-28.

I haven't had a soda, sweet tea, or any sweetened drink in a month and I can say that I don't get that mid afternoon fog like I used to. At about two thirty or three every day I would get to the point where I just wanted to take a nap and could hardly function. It hasn't happened once in the last month.

I never though I could go a month without a Coke and scoffed at people who said they had no desire for it anymore. At this point it has no effect on me and I'm not letting it take ahold of me again.

I have not had a coke in about the same time frame. I am guilty of having powerade.

I just wanted to pop into this thread to congratulate you on this!

I stopped drinking Cokes 2 years ago (and I was on Diet Cokes when I quit, and I was a SERIOUS addict). I started working out and eating right, so I started drinking a lot of water. Got down to one Diet Coke a day before I realized I was pretty much just drinking a can full of chemicals just for the caffeine. Cut out that final DC (and as my husband will tell you, it was ROUGH), and haven't had one since. Have absolutely no desire to start drinking them again! Keep up the good work!

Between eating right, working out, no caffeine, limited alcohol, no smoking...I'm completely boring!

same here. my liquids are limited to:

- water
- coffee
- powerade zero
- diet lemonade from chickfila
- beer

in short, i had to get rid of all carbonated drinks due to kidney stones (serious diet drink fan here).

that was 2 years ago. i've probably had 5 carbonated beverages since then. seriously. completely lost my desire for them.

Being overly technical here.. but this will make you stop to think for a second. Everything you eat can be thought of in the same way. Every single thing.

But I get what you mean and good for you :takes a sip of vanilla coke zero:

You know.. I sit here and find myself thinking about everything I've done and want to do. Mostly about what I'm eating. Nutritional value. I know now, obviously, that carbs are not needed.. especially refined, processed white carbs. But I was thinking, how bad is a moderate amount of 'healthy' carbs, like brown rice or sweet potatoes ? What about them is so bad? Or qdoba or something that has a really low glycemic index, what makes that so bad?

I don't know. And I am wondering why I don't know. I thought was relatively well-versed in nutrition and all because of all of the stuff I've read and all, but I am beginning to realize.. I'm pretty well-versed in low carb nutrition, but not nutrition in general. And starting to realize that I don't know much about working out, and how can I be so sure everything I'm doing is really helping? There are so, SO many varying viewpoints and 'research' and articles that support all different types of exercise, much like there is for dieting, and I find myself becoming.... overwhelmed? Not sure if that's the word I'm looking for, but maybe I'm confused more than anything.

I've gone back to a ketogenic diet, maybe not following Atkins specifically but staying under 30g carbs/day. That should pay off and help me shed pounds again. I'm just thinking aloud really.

I get what you mean. Sometimes I think when we're trying to lose weight, we get lost in the weeds a bit.

I'm the ultimate poster child for moderation. Yep, I eat carbs, and I still lose weight. It's what works for me. I just limit my processed, refined carbs to minimum. I just had some tortilla chips...not my ideal snack, but I'm not going to feel bad about it. The rest of my food today has been impeccable, and I had a good workout.

I may not lose as fast as someone on a low carbs diet, but that's ok with me. I'm still losing, and I get to eat my (whole grain) bread, potatoes and rice!

Ive had one real coke in twenty seven months. I used to drink 2 liters daily, especially the vanilla cola.

I certainly cut down on empty calories.

I think Vanilla coke is a common theme amongst us. Oh and hulk.... - that's for making me aware of the existence of Vanilla coke zero.

Anyways Hulk, I'm doing what you seem to be pondering. I do eat carbs, but I just limit them. I still eat some whole wheat stuff and sweet potatoes. Of course lol I haven't lost near what you have nor been at it near as long as you. My philosophy has been to do as well nutritionally but make my main focus on portion control. Gotta find something you could live with forever.

I know I'll probably get sick of some things but for the most part I haven't felt like I'm suffering with what I've been eating.

Oh and I use to drink a whole two liter too, just a few hours before bed, and then wonder why I couldn't sleep..... Jesus at the calories I was drinking.

I know that when I get where I want to be, I'll give carbs a fair try. Healthy carbs, that is. REfined, process carbs are just bad news all around. I think when maintaining, a 1/2 cup of brown rice with every meal will be okay. Maybe a whole cup if I find energy levels to be too low.

Anyway my ultimate goal is still about 50 pounds away, so I'll cross that bridge when I get there. For now, low carb and ketosis is where I wil lremain.

In fact, men who drank at least six cups of coffee a day had a 10 percent lower chance of dying during the 14-year study period than those who drank none. For women, the risk was 15 percent lower, according to Freedman’s work, published in the latest issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Drinking copious amounts of coffee may reduce the risk of the most common type of skin cancer, a new study finds.

Women in the study who drank more than three cups of coffee a day were 20 percent less likely to develop basal cell carcinoma, a slow-growing form of skin cancer, than those who drank less than one cup a month.

Men in the study who consumed more than three cups of coffee had a 9 percent reduction in their basal cell carcinoma risk.

1. Protects against breast cancer

Women who drink five or more cups of coffee a day are 57 percent less likely to develop estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer than women who drink less than a cup a day, according to a study published this month in the journal Breast Cancer Research.

In this study of 2,818 women with breast cancer and 3,111 women without, researchers found that coffee seemed to protect against only this particular kind of breast cancer, and not estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer or triple negative breast cancer.

2. Wards off stroke

Drinking at least one cup of coffee a day could ward off stroke , according to a study published in March in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.

Swedish researchers analyzed the coffee-drinking habits and health histories of 34,670 women for 10 years, and found that women who drank one or more cups of coffee a day were 25 percent less likely to have a stroke than the women who drank less than a cup of coffee a day.

Even though the finding was in women, researchers said coffee would likely have the same effect for men, too.

3. Reduces risk of diabetes

Having four cups of coffee a day can slash a woman's risk of Type 2 diabetes by 56 percent, according to a study published in January in the journal Diabetes.

In the study of 359 women with diabetes and 359 healthy women, researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles, found that the more coffee the women drank, the less likely they were to have diabetes.

The effect likely has to do with coffee's ability to raise levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) in the blood. High blood levels of SHBG are associated with a decreased risk of Type 2 diabetes, according to the study.

4. Improves brain function

Coffee can also improve brain function in mice, according to a 2010 study in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

In that study, researchers gave caffeinated coffee to mice that were engineered to develop Alzheimer's disease. The mice that were given coffee either had the disease progression slow, or the disease never developed at all.

The finding suggests coffee could be a treatment for people with Alzheimer's disease, those researchers said.

5. Reduces prostate cancer risk

Regular coffee intake (either caffeinated or decaffeinated) is associated with a decreased risk of deadly prostate cancer, according to a study published today (May 17) in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

In the study of 47,911 men, 5,035 of whom had prostate cancer and 642 of whom had fatal or advanced cases, researchers found that men who drank the most coffee a day (six or more cups) had a nearly 20 percent lower risk of developing prostate cancer than those who drank the least coffee a day.

That association is even higher for lethal prostate cancer — the men who drank the most coffee a day had a 60 percent decreased risk of developing the disease, according to the study. And even drinking one to three cups of coffee a day was associated with a 30 percent lower risk of lethal prostate cancer , the study said.

Awesome. I will continue drinking my coffee then.

I had an ultrasound done on my liver a couple weeks ago and the results came back yesterday. They said I had fatty infiltration, so basically I have non-alcoholic fatty liver. The Dr. hasn't called me yet, probably because I have an appointment coming up but they did say no alchool

There really is no treatment for this other than losing weight and eating better so I guess I'm good there. I don't really drink that much, maybe a beer or two a week so I'm probably good there. From what I've read online this is pretty common and down the road could lead to problems but it seems to be no big deal right now.

I'm actually excited to go see the doctor now, the last time I went was a couple of weeks before I started the diet so I'm anxious to see what he has to say about the weight loss.
