Bump.... see the last post
Still a few months out, but will be there thurs-sun. I’m trying to round up some bar(beer or cocktail), bar food joints and restaurant recs.
I was thinking something laid back Thursday, something nice on Friday and then Saturday night would be late evening grub. I’ve been looking... dont think I want anything Gary Danko-ish for the better/nice place. The wife and I would enjoy that but we are meeting some friends and I don’t think that’s their deal.
Again... several months out and I’ve looked a bit already. Many of these places you have to get in a good ways out, which is why I’m asking now.

Get a burrito at el farolito or la taqueria on Thursday. State bird provisions Friday. I thought the bar scene sucked in the Bay Area personally

Burma Superstar for awesome ethnic food.
Mikkeller bar for beer and a good sample of the vibrant homeless population.
China Live was a good, modern spot in Chinatown.

I really enjoyed Mission Chinese and Flour+Water. I love the Mission as a whole, and they have tons of great taco places. Can go to a bunch and grab a taco and margarita at each.

It does.. Seems like they roll up the sidewalks early in San Francisco.
I liked the Mexican food, especially the burritos in SF and La Taqueria on Mission Street was my favorite for burritos.

Best burger/chicken sandwich is this small place called Wesburger 'N' More. Slamming chicken sandwich and great food. if you do go, get the Root Beer on tap aswell

Cali Mex isnt that great. Texas has much better Mex.
What kind of bar scene are you into? Creaft Beer? Wine? Alternative lifestyle?

Beer bars: Toronado, City Beer Store, Crafty Fox, Church Key, Monk's Kettle, Beer Hall
Cocktail bars: Bourbon & Branch, Stookey's and Benjamin Cooper
Breweries: If in SF proper, I only frequent Cellarmaker and Barebottle (on my way back to SFO). I'll head to Black Hammer every once in awhile if I'm visiting a client in that area of SoMa.
Toronado (conveniently located next to a great Ramen spot called Iza Ramen), Crafty Fox (you'll get some weirdos walking by, so makes for good people watching), Church Key, Monk's Kettle, Beer Hall, City Beer Store (guys will give you tastings of cans they crack in shop), and Hopwater.

There's better Mexican, obviously, but I would recommend El Techo's rooftop in Mission. Great view of downtown. Otherwise, my two favorite spots are Taqueria El Farolito and Taqueria Cancun.

More of a spot for lunch, but I'd recommend going to Swan Oyster Depot or SOMA StrEat Food Park. Only a dozen (?) seats in Swan, and it's cash only, but the seafood is amazing. Otherwise, plenty of options at the Food Park.

something nice on Friday
State Bird or The Progress (next door / same building), China Live, Flour + Water, Delfina, or Rich Table (went for first time a couple weeks ago)

Kokkari- great for a nicer dinner- sit at the bar if you can. They had a fire since the last time I was there, so I am not sure how much has changed, hopefully it's just like it was

Wrong. Not right. Absurd. Preposterous. Ridiculous.

Here are just a few of my favorites... you're going to get a lot of great recommendations in this thread and you probably can't go wrong. SF is a great food city.
House of Nanking (Chinatown) for the best hot and sour soup I've ever had- hell, one of the best soups I've had period.
Hog Island Oyster Bar (Ferry Building)- great oysters, also had the seafood stew which was amazing.
Slanted Door (Ferry Building)- yes I suppose this is a touristy suggestion, but the food is good. I highly recommend the chicken claypot. Order extras of their peanut sauce and put it on everything, it's that good.
Fog Harbor (Fisherman's Wharf)- Okay, okay, I know it doesn't get more touristy than this, but hear me out- the garlic roasted dungeness crab here is simply the best I've had in SF, or anywhere.
Waterbar (Embarcadero)- good food and cool view of the bay bridge.
Comstock Saloon for outstanding brunch.
Edited to add- go to Li Po in Chinatown and get hammered on Chinese Mai Tai's.

For casual stuff, tadich grill is a must for seafood. Brandy ho's is really good Chinese too. Right on the edge of Chinatown.
I second the toronado bar rec. One of my favorite bars anywhere. Great prices too. If the weather is nice, hit the patio at hi dive. Right on the water under the bay bridge.

Some great suggestions thus far:
Mission Chinese - will echo this. Can be a little difficult to get in. Last time I went they didnt take reservations but you could email the general time you would be there and they would try and have a table for you. Which is totally different than a reservation.
Zuni Cafe - I love this place. Stand at the bar or sit down. Oysters, fries, great bread, rose, martinis, roasted chicken.
Boulevard - Nancy Oakes' longstanding classic. It is a classic for a reason. Had a fantastic lunch there about 4 months ago.
Liholiho Yacht Club - One of the more delicious meals I have had in a long time. Unique food (kung pao sweetbreads, beef cheek bao, etc...) cool setting, good vibe. Get the baked Hawaiian dessert.
Also had a solid meal at Cockscomb.
San Francisco has a fantastic bar culture so shouldn't be too hard to find what you are looking for. Be it, old school tiki at the Tonga Room or new classic bars like Trick Dog or Bar Agricole.
ETA: Whether into modern art or think its a bunch of "Hell I could do that" a trip to the Museum of Modern Art is a great way to while away a rainy afternoon.

This was already an option... good to have a little reassurance on it.
Hopefully the weather is good, I’ve only been to San Fran once and it was only for a day. Due to it being on the back end of a trip to Sonoma.
That being said... I now have a bunch of shite to look at!
Probably catching a ball game in Oakland that Saturday.... any of these joints safe for late night grub? Prolly 10-12am-ish.
