Brasas Peru, a Peruvian charcoal chicken restaurant is coming in the old Calendar’s building on Perkins at Essen.

Sounds great to me. I’ll definitely try it. Unfortunately, they are in the building that restaurants go to die.

Yeesh, that was my first thought when I read this. Sounds like a good concept, but what a terrible location.

That’s a good addition

It's so bad I don't think new restaurants are even making it a year there now.

EDT: Go take a look at Google Maps. It's an impressive line of failed restaurants

Dec. 2016 - Lasseign's
Apr. 2017 - empty
June 2018 - Sake sushi
Apr. 2019 - King Crab
Mar. 2021 - empty
Mar. 2022 - Iron Fork
Feb. 2023 - Brasas Peru (coming soon)

Why anyone would open a restaurant there is beyond me...unless it is just a spot for a quick money laundering enterprise?

Calendar's was successful there. It's a busy part of town in the medical district, so you would think the lunch crowd would be good. But for whatever reason, it hasn't worked.

The Brazilian chicken place on O'Neal is legit. Parking lot and environs are filthy, but that is O'Neal. The fried bird and all the dips and sides are really good.

And Frankie Marcellos which I thought was inconsistent, but had some good meals there. The location is cumbersome to get in and out of but a good restaurant can make it there.

The traffic is so bad it is almost impossible to get out of there and get going in the direction you want to go. Also, depending on where you are coming from, it is almost impossible to get into as well.

I'd go for lunch today if I could get a Plantation chicken salad.

30+ years ago, traffic was completely different, was Perkins even 4 lane back then?

I believe that building is haunted.

It’s completely dead around all of that area after 5:30. It’s hard to make it on a lunch only crowd.

You think? The area has numerous restaurants.

Its in a bad spot for getting in and out of. The list of places that have been there in recent memory were all pretty lackluster.

Putting sushi in that spot considering the company on the other corner was suspect at best. Laundering comes to mind like someone else said

Didn’t know there was one in O’Neal. What’s the name of this place?
