bar service is starting to go the way of table service in this town .. at one time, you could avoid crappy table service by sitting at the bar, getting served immediately, and then tipping an appreciative bartender well .. but now, it seems like they are putting just anybody behind the bar -- i.e. there aren't a whole lot of professional bartenders anymore .. there's this new phenomenon around BR where the fricking bartender will just DISAPPEAR, unexplained, for 15 minutes at a time .. empty glasses all around the bar and people looking at each other .. or, as you said, you have a bartender either working a customer or a customer working the bartender and they are too dumb to realize the other 14 customers need something ..

it has certainly played a role in my cutting back on going out to eat ..

as far as Pelican House is concerned .. i find the place to be really odd ..

Absolutely ridiculous.

Unreal. Would have said keep this bourbon and asked for my money back. These days, you just can't get away with such lousy customer service. That is why this place needs to be exposed. Too many people here are complaining about giving them a "second chance".

Let this be a warning to everyone else to stay away.

I like your strategy

Place sucks. Every time I end up there, I always wonder why I came back. Terrible atmosphere, food, and service. They had 1 good bartender and he left and opened another place. Good example of not having a clue how to run a business

I went to the Avenue Pub today and got 10 of their sample 4 oz pours today of some good shite for $30.

On Monday it was 6 pours for $30.

This thread has been a great read. Proud of corp brew for doing what they are doing. Just serving good beer at fair prices with a nice attitude.

I applaud pelican house too. They spent a shitton of money and took on huge risk to provide the market a good craft beer bar. They unfortunately missed the mark though. High prices, poor tap selection, badly planned event, and their food had tiny portions with big price tag (my experience from a while ago this could be different now). I hate to generalize and call the entire staff incompetent but I have never been wow'd there with customer service.

Can I get some cliffs here? I know the place sucks but need some context. Was it one of those bullshite craft beer week events gone bad?

Was there not enough info on the first 2.5 pages to figure out what happened? Jeez

On a positive note. Good will come out of this. As someone mentioned, the one good employee at PH left and opened his own place. Pelican House will lose more and more business as more competition opens up, and it will snowball, IF they keep it up.

As there are more entries into the market, PH won't be able to survive like they could when there were only a couple of craft beer bars in town.

Looks like this weekend was an eye-opener for some people with regards to CBD. Hopefully, PH ownership learns from this and gives the market what they want - whether that be the best selection, the best prices, or the best atmosphere. Right now, they are none of those.

I have only been one time, and I wasn't impressed.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems every time I pass PH after dark, there is always plenty of cars in the parking lot. And it's been this way for some time.

Call me crazy, but I doubt that this event will discourage the "faithful" from continuing to go there in the future.

And FYI, this place (bar/restaurant?) was suppose to be a place for young business professionals. Frankly, that never made any sense to me. But thankfully for dumb luck, the owners fell arse backwards into money when the brain dead moronic beer drinkers started to show up. You know, the young NON-business professionals type crowd. It ain't the crowd they were hoping for, but it's a crowd nonetheless.

agree with this. i dont think the beer people on this board frequent the place very much anyway. the people in here saying they will never go again were probably never going again anyway unless they were brought there.

What is the non-business professional crowd?

LoL. It seems that the PH employee charged with downvoting negative stories is up today. He got me. Not sure how that recounting of the worst bartender ever got a negative mark but it's all good.

Other places in B.R. have had a manager, or an owner, set up handles on TD to rectify issues people voice concerns over on the food board.

The fact that this place only has some nerd down voting makes you realize what kind of operation PH is.

Ridiculous.

I have no clue as to what any of this means.

Place sound like a train wreck, though.

What's ridiculous is you stating this assumption as fact.

Pelican House started on the downward slope after the Parish issue.... it has been trending down on this board ever since and apparently this was the final straw for many.

When Parish was still fairly new and they had the Cherry Vanilla Canebrake Cask (think it was that one) and people couldn't get the Canebrake unless they bought the meal.
