Like LL, I've known and gotten to be friends with, the owners and managers at PH since they were bartenders at my favorite dive bar years ago. So, when they opened the PH, I went there pretty often. I think their biggest problems are figuring what they want to be (the whole add music and hit everyone with a cover charge) after opening as a craft beer bar was/is a debacle, and if they DO want to be a craft beer bar, they've got to upgrade the taps (selection has been terrible last several times I've checked) and educate their help about craft beer. The servers are mostly clueless, and to a large extent, so are many of the bartenders about what they are offering, which I've yet to encounter at CB&D-they know their stuff. And it will be a challenge, as the high ceilings and bright lights aren't the best vibe in the world.

As much as I never intended on wasting more than a few seconds of my life posting on TD, I want to fess up as the down-voter. If only to strip a few of you nitwits of the self-satisfaction that anyone affiliated with PH would ever care what goes on in this thread. I have been down-voting the crying, whining, negativity more than the context. What a horrible way to represent craft beer/bev culture. Not really constructive criticism, more so butthurt.

I frequent CBD weekly and PH maybe monthly. I can assure you that the 5 crybabies in here represent a very small minority of the population. $30 bucks? C'mon man, yall need a new career if this is breaking the bank. They took a chance and went big, but for you guys to assume they intentionally misled people is pathetic.

Like someone else mentioned, line out the door. I'm sure the 100 bucks you little fellas wont spend there over the next year is really going to put them in the red.

I have to say TheCoveBR, very little brother-esque of you to come in here and revel in the negativity. Its bad enough that you guys get the pass on the shameless self-promotion.

Two completely different businesses, two completely different agendas. I really enjoy both, and want to thank the owners of each establishment for what they offer.

You thank them by spending money there. Quite a few people no longer care to spend money at PH. That's their right. Also their right to complain that some shithole is charging cover. It's 2015 and I'm white. I'm not paying cover.

Have a down vote.

No way you're not associated with PH in some way.

None whatsoever.

But you're right, it's 2015. We are all entitled to have no composure as grown men and be completely over-opinionated on very minor issues in life.

What a condescending thing to say. People cited specific reasons for why they're pissed. They also gave a lot of constructive criticism. A lot of these posters drink together and share beer. You post once, and think anybody gives a shite what you think?

Your first post in 2 1/2 years of membership is to defend the integrity and business model of the Pelican House? Of all the opinions - stark, divided, and even offensive - found on this board over the past two years, and this is the one that causes you to step into the light with your 2 cents against the majority?

Nice.

You're the one who created an account, and down voted 80 posts because someone was talking bad about your friends bar.

Concerning food and drink, on an internet message board housing discussion on the topic? Yes, we do. Its exactly the point.

GFY. Business is business and it doesn't matter if I pay 1¢ -- if I feel like I was ripped off then I will bring it forward.

From what I've read in this thread it's been a lot of constructive criticism.

1. Get better taps
2. Hire better staff
3. Figure out your Identity

I'll second the need for better staff. The waitstaff used to be very attentive, and at least reasonably knowledgeable, about their offerings. Unfortunately, they've all left. Last time I was in, I had to inform the waitress that yes, you do indeed have a list of beers on rotating tap.

No, it was just odd to witness the bashing at CBD last night. To me that's a strange way to have fun.

I made a first post because because I have been a regular Cove patron for half a decade, and I don't drop comments for fun when I have no real input or opinion.

I don't consider my bartenders to be friends, but we do have pretty regular interaction. Maybe I am biased, idk. Maybe I'm level-headed.

The price isn't the issue.

If "going big" is charging people $30 for a t shirt, some pork sandwiches, and the opportunity to talk about beer with beer breweries/vendors (something any beer maven could do via email for free), then that is pretty bad. They really went all out there...

You are posting on a gotdamned food and drink board in a beer thread. What kind of shite did you think would be being discussed.
There were probably 25 events in the NOLA area alone and I'm sure some in BR where brewery reps were on-site serving special beers and very much willing to talk about their product. AND I can't think of one damn place that thought it would be a cool idea to charge a cover charge.

I know a few people in the industry and they have already mentioned, like earlier discussed, some of the beer reps there were ashamed to be associated with the shite show at PH.
