There's that shanty looking place behind Mac's. Can't recall what it's called. Even our Mexican places owned by and run by Mexicans serve American tacos.

Mexican tacos are meat, onions, cilantro, lime, and chili sauce, all on a corn tortilla.

Corn tortilla...very important part. Luckily I live in an area where there are taco trucks run by real mexicans. And they'll serve carnitas, milanesa, barbacoa, lengua, al pastor, buche, birria, etc. I try and hit up the trucks twice a month.

Two street tacos served with grilled onions and blistered serranos for 3 bucks.....WINNING!!!

They're the worst. Unheated flour tortillas FTW.

My kids grumble about corn tortillas too. I love them heated up on a hot comal and then thrown into a tortilla warmer. Flour tortillas are too gummy for me.

I can't get good ones here. The ones from Papacito's are so good I could eat them plain with just a bit of butter.

We had similar issues for a long time here, until enough taquerias opened up that people began to eat "real" Mexican tacos. Now most of our TexMex joints also serve some version. A lot of times, you have to order it as something like an "asada taco." In all honesty, though, I usually just go to actual taquerias now if I'm wanting mexican food.

Tortas Ahogadas for the win.

Personally, I don't like corn totillas, too dry and flat flavor. They seem to take over the other ingredients. Just my, ho

Soft chicken or beef tacos with guacamole and pico is the only thing I order at mex joints.
Always solid.

I'm not sure that people who dislike corn tortillas have had them prepared properly.

The lengua and barbacoa tacos at this place:

Tortilleria Jalisco

were pretty good when I visited that past April.

I prefer good flour but I totally know what you mean by "gummy".
Qdoba always had gummy tortillas and it freaked me out to the point of never returning.

They are supposed to be fried in veg oil on grill first. Do not eat them straight. Completely different flavor.
