I want to make several homemade muffalettas. There are several brands of muffaletta olive dressing in the jar at the various grocery stores. Does anyone have a favorite-go-to brand of jar olive dressing? Thanks in advance.

I agree totally. But if in a pinch, Rouses has their own named brand in their stores and it will suffice.

I've also used Boscoli and Rouse's. Either work fine. I toss a little hot sauce into the mixture.

My personal fave is the Progress Grocery Brand.

A friend of mine brought me a couple bottles of olive salad that he said was too hot for him to deal with and it had jalapenos mixed in with all the other stuff.

I can't remember the name of the maker since it was a couple years ago and long gone now.

ETA: Just called the wife and she said she remembers it being Boscoli Olive Salad.

The only brand I know of that has jalapenos is the Rouse's store brand.

My favorite is the Central Grocery one.

I checked on the net and Boscoli does have a jalapeno one from what I saw.

Boscoli has one with jalapenos. I've never seen it or used it. I didn't know Rouse's brand had them. I don't recall tasting them in it, but I've only used a few times. I usually use brands I buy in New Orleans. If I'm out, I use Boscoli, but it's the regular salad.

Gambino's makes a decent one ... they have a jalapeno version as well. Kroger out here in Atlanta carries them. Boscoli is available out here as well.

I often make the stuff myself though. Equal parts giardiniera, green olives, and black olives ... all drained of any brine, pulsed in the food processor until you break it down to the consistency you want. (some people like it on the chunky side, sometimes you want it smaller because you're making cocktail muffs).

If I want some heat, i add fresh cloves of garlic through a garlic press and toss the whole thing with that fresh garlic and some EVOO. Keeps good in the fridge in a plastic container for a while.

Rouses has their own

I don't have a jar in my possession but I think last time I looked, Rouses olive salad on the back label says it's made by Boscoli Foods, Inc.

This may have changed recently but I am almost certain they make it for Rouses.

If someone has a Rouses jar please report back.

With that being said, I use Rouses because it's $3 cheaper and taste the same. Only difference I notice between Boscoli and Rouses is size of vegetables and olives.

Boscoli is good- monjuni’s will sell their fresh made live mix in jars from their restaurant, and then they aren’t packed in all that oil.
