High Hat Cafe on Freret Street has great food. Everything is freshly made. The prices are reasonable and is very kid friendly.

Not going anywhere. Staying home. Thanksgiving travel is a nightmare.
I seen packages of fresh cut turkey thighs at Zuppardo's in Metairie.

If possible I always try to avoid driving thru Atlanta. Traffic is always awful there all the time..

We went to Chicago a few years ago in December. The Theater district had some good Christmas type live shows. We saw Charles Dickens "a Christmas Carol". It was excellent. We scored half-price tickets for a good value.
"Another Broken Egg Cafe" has excellent breakfast.
I don't like Spanish or Mexican....nothing creole...no red Spanish rice...no tomatoes in gumbo or jambalaya. I had to take Spanish language class in high school..I hated this class. Give me Cajun culture and authentic Cajun food every day of the week.

re: What to eat for lunch?

I love a good chicken salad sandwich on sliced wheat with chips for lunch, It's a light lunch and not heavy a po-boy sandwich and fries for lunch.

No cruising for me. I have my three pizer doses. But the link above is just too much to deal with. Good luck on your cruise.
re: Taking a trip to Monterey, CA. Any recommendations, things to do, places to eat?

Definitely the Monterey Bay Aquarium...and the 17 mile drive thru Pebble Beach Golf Course.
Empire State Building but it's expensive to see everything there.

The higher you have it the better reception you will receive. I suggest attaching it to a long wooden stick to raise it up.
I always check the local library. They always have travel guides that can be checked out. They are usually older versions. If I find one I really like then I buy the latest version of it with updated information.

white beans over a big slice of cake
Breaux Mart has this line of sausage. I especially like the Blueberry smoked sausage.

I reheat with a little butter mixed in...delicious.
I ate a lot of lobster chowder (had plenty of potatoes and corn in the chowder) and lobster rolls during my visit there. It was good. I came home and my blood pressure was sky high with all the sodium. It took a long time for the BP to come down to normal.

It's going to take more than an afternoon to see Biltmore. There are several different house tours available...not counting the outside gardens and shops in the old horse stables. Set aside a day to see everything right.
