What's Nola's time line on cans?
I think they are a ways off. They and Abita are a good bit away from canning.

Someone posted that they said hoping for late october. Be lucky if got it before end of the year.
I'm sure thier (Abita & Nola) actual goal is to get it up and running with enough time before mardi gras to get the kinks worked out and production up.

Maybe I can tie up the mini-kegs to my bike rack. I'm still working on a corny keg trailer for my bike. Bumpy roads have proved a challenge.

I had the NOLA Smoky Mary yesterday and I've gotta say..I was pretty disappointed. The "smoke" flavor is so subtle that it almost ceases to exist. It kinda just tasted like an Abita Amber to be honest with you - which isn't a lot of taste or flavor in my opinion.
In all honesty, I think the bartender may have accidentally served me an Amber, but I wasn't paying close attention.

Like I said in the original post, I hold Nola to such a higher standard than Abita. I've enjoyed all their beers. I really do believe this thing was an Amber. I'm going to have to give it a whirl again or something.

Yeah, NOLA puts some great stuff out and I expect nothing less from them than outstanding beer.
Funny to think you picked up a smoke flavor possibly in an abita amber. The slightest of suggestive queues can really effect your mind. Of course maybe it was a smoky mary and it really was that bad, but from all i've heard it didn't sould like what you described.

Yeah, it very well could have been the Nola Smoky Mary. My back was turned to the bartender at the time, so I do not know. If it was, the smokiness was so subtle and faint that it almost wasn't even there. Don't go in expecting a Alaskan Smoked Porter or a Rogue Smoke Ale.

Any idea how long the Smoky Mary and Vanilla Doubledog will be available? I won't be back in Louisiana until mid-November and hope to get some!

From what I understand, Abita has started installation and hopes to have everything on line by the new year.
Haven't tried/seen Smoked Mary yet. I had just a taste of the Vanilla Doubledog and liked it much better than the Vanilla Turbodog they put out a while ago. The vanilla was thankfully scaled back, and the chocolate malts really carried the beer.

I just flew into the New Orleans area today. Any idea where I can pick either of these up on the Westbank?

I saw an ad in this weeks Gambit for a Abita dinner at Ruth's Chris on Fulton St. that has a paring with the vanillia doubledog. Dinner for Sept. 20th so I'm guessing we see it in the store within the next week.

Just had the Smoky Mary again last night at a different bar this time (Bulldog). Had a little more smoke flavor, but not much. Hate to say it, but this beer doesn't do it for me. Oh well, Irish Channel Stout kicks arse...
I guess I'll try the Abita sometime this week if it's out.

Just tried the Abita Vanilla DoubleDog.
It's very good. You get the hints of caramel, chocolate and vanilla in different parts if the taste (initial, during, after). I usually don't care for dark ales but this one is delicious.
Got it at Rouses
