Thanks all! Appreciate your suggestions.
Where to go for boudin/specialty meats
Posted by hen on 12/28/15 at 3:56 pm
Going to be in the Lafayette area this week and looking for recommendations on the best place to stop for boudin, cracklin and other good things. I did a search of past threads and Best Stop, Billy's, Poche's, Johnson's Boucaniere, and Hebert's are all mentioned. Are any of these better than the others? Any suggestions on what to get from each place? Thanks for your help!
Good, thanks. You as well.

What's the latest we can arrive and it nit be a major hassle? It's too hot to sit out there for hours.
Yes you can drink and you can show up at anytime. It's a big park with plenty of space for everyone. Only problem might be parking downtown.

I don't like a high fence either, but they are the only reason the scimitar horned oryx isn't extinct.

You can put that fun fact in your back pocket for when you encounter an anti-hunter who thinks all hunters do is kill without conservation in mind.
But the reason it is extinct in the wild is because of over-hunting without any management. Your logic has a hole.
re: What Does the OT Think of NPR?

I listen to NPR almost exclusively in the car. It is so nice not to be bombarded by ads with screaming car salesmen. Radiolab is my favorite program. I usually don't catch it when it airs so I download a few episodes for long car trips.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
It's really just a tool they use to find your online presence. They ask you an asinine question, you ask your internet friends for help with said question, they google the question and find this Tigerdroppings page (and your post history). Might want to start deleting things...

Busters place and no food and spirits. Decent beer selection?
They are pretty comparable - local and macro brews, mostly in bottles. Chimes is by far your best bet for beer selection. If you haven't done so yet, definitely walk over to Acquistapace's to stock up on beer and wine.

Sadly, not much is open for dinner on Mondays in downtown Covington. The only places within walking distance that are open on Monday are New Orleans Seafood & Spirits (Louisiana fare), Coffee Rani (salads and sandwiches), Buster's Place (oysters/fried seafood), and Yujin (sushi).

This is true
Does anyone know which teams are associated with which restaurants/chefs? I usually just try the food that looks good, but was curious of any known associations.

I've been meaning to hit up the Ethiopian place on Magazine. Anyone tried it? Been probably 10 years since I've had Ethiopian food.
Sorry to hijack - I've been to Nile (the newer place on Magazine). The food was pretty good, but not nearly as vibrant as places I've been in NYC and DC. Satisfied the craving closer to home though.
To answer the original question, I'd say Dong Phoung (though it's in the East) or Lebanon Cafe.

Is it better than the one that was on magazine in Nola but closed? I thought it was mediocre and overpriced.
Yes, the Mandeville and Covington Coffee Ranis are much better than the Uptown location.
Another Beautiful Day is a health food store with a lunch counter (next to the DMV). Their super sandwich (a veggie sandwich) is amazing, but they have salads too.
TSA security screening. Not entirely irrational, but my anger is out of proportion to the circumstances.

I usually like their meat and game dishes better than their fish dishes. That being said, the house-smoked salmon appetizer is one of my favorites if they have it.

Ugh...that interview makes me like him even less. I mean:
Seriously? I wish they would have focused more on the fact that he is from New York, not New Orleans.

New Orleans has been so supportive, so happy to see my face on TV or see me in public, because they can now touch a celebrity chef, you know, and say hello.
