Pre-storm, it was just a neighborhood restaurant.
Post-storm remodel seems more of an upscale tourist restaurant, with prices to match.
Food is still great, and we still go; I just miss the old Mandina's.

I'll have to agree with a few said already
Vera Cruz
Figaro's
Christian's was awesome
Vaquero's was always in our sunday brunch rotation
New ones:
Que Serra on St. Charles had good salads
Kung Dynasty - St. Charles. great chinese and i loved all the waiters giving themselves westernized names "dave" "tom" "chuck"
Tipton County...Great BBQ sandwiches we used to get and go play ball in the park on the weekends with my parents.

Seconded. I couldn't remember the name since it's been 20 years.

The 1990's incarnation of We Never Close in N.O.East. The BBQ poboy with pickles and mayo, which we called "the slop", was the best thing I ever ate at 4am after a night out.

I'm pretty sure that place is now Cote Sud, and they still make pizzas using the original oven left behind by Ciros.

Really?
It's definitely Cote Sud now. I haven't tried the pizza there, but I've heard it's the same as Ciro's.
Some mentioned Vaquero's. I thought it was very good during the first couple of years. It focused more on "Southwest cuisine", and had some dishes not found elsewhere in the city. It gradually adjusted to more of a Mexican restaurant and I thought that was too bad (although it remained decent until the last year or so).

I can't believe how many people are saying this.
Am I the only person who can't recall it ever being anything but terrible -- at least foodwise? I think a lot of peoples' memories must be clouded by some of the drink special deals they used to have there. It's all I can think.
