Greetings all,

My girlfriend has a conference in New Orleans this week, and I am tagging along. As native Baton Rougeian who has lived out of state for 10+ years, my knowledge of the New Orleans scene is journeyman, at best.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for:

-Lunch/dinner near the convention center
-Happy hour/outdoor drinking in the garden district (or elsewhere for that matter)
-Beer bars

We are in our late 20s and are into good food and craft beer. I am familiar with the "traditional" Quarter places (Galatoire's, Arnaud's, etc.), so looking for something a bit more under the radar.

TIA.

Also, we are thinking about taking the ferry over to Algiers Point. I've never been to this area of the city. Is it worth the (albeit short) trip?

That's my question, is there anything over there worth checking out (restaurants, bars, things to see while walking around, etc.)?

Looking to branch out from the Quarter and garden district.

There are a few bars. The view of the city on the ferry ride is worth the trip.
You might enjoy a walk down Magazine street uptown to visit all of the shops and then stop in the Bulldog

I'd recommend checking out the City Park / Mid-City area. In addition to the park and all that it offers, you have some of the best options in each category:

BBQ/Meat: Blue Oak, Frey, or Toup's Meatery.
Beer: Second Line Brewery, Bulldog on Canal, 504 Craft Beer Reserve (bottle shop), Bayou Beer Garden
Italian: Venezia's
Desserts: Brocata's, Morning Call in the park
Mediterranean: 1000 Figs
Wine selection: Pearl Wine, Swirl
Beautiful scenery: Esplanade Avenue, City Park
Seafood: Bevi, Clesi's
Asian Infusion: MoPho

I left off countless other places but this is a start if interested in the area.

If nothing else, grab a po'boy from Parkway Bakery on your way out of town. They do have a bar in one side and you can order food at the bar to skip the line (if necessary).

Rusty Nail is the best bar in the convention center area, has outdoor seating too

Barrel Proof has great whiskey list.

Peche, Emeril's, and La Boca are the best restaurants around there. All 3 are excellent

Cochon Butcher or Peche would be the best lunch options

Burt has great food recs (I'll add Peche) and tducen has great beer recs.

I'll add make sure to spend an afternoon or evening at the bar on top of the pontchartrain hotel for an incredible view.

That's a $1 per person each way to see one of the worlds great waterways, id do it and i often suggest others to do it. Not sure what's in Algiers Point, but it's a nice little trip across the river even if you never leave the ferry landing.
