re: Richmond, VA - wahootiger
Sorry for the delayed response. Life, work, etc. I'd second everything McVick said. He's also got the skinny on the best beer in town, though there are a lot of great options. A few more recommendations: Most of the bars/restaurants near the National are going to be on Grace street a few ...

re: Richmond, VA - wahootiger
Currently live in Richmond. Downtown is safe enough, the only issue that real downtown (where the high rises are) is kind of dead at night, save for a few places (Shockhoe Slip/Shockhoe Bottom). Though there is a strip of bars/restaurants near the National that would give you plenty of options. ...

Sausage in seafood gumbo? - wahootiger
So my Game day tradition for the Bama game is to make a chicken and sausage gumbo. As an out of state tiger fan, it brings a little Louisiana to me. However, in order to try to shake off this losing streak, I’m switching things up and giving seafood gumbo a shot. It will be my first time doing ...

re: Private tour guide in Tuscany options for wine tours - wahootiger
VaBuckeye and AbitaFan, How is the scenery in Tuscany this time of year? We are tentatively planning a honeymoon in Tuscany/Amalfi Coast during late September next year. Based on my research, it seems as though the area is more brown as opposed to the lush green you always see because the fie...

re: Lisbon vs. Porto - wahootiger
I would make a trip up to Porto. We did about a week in Lisbon/Cascais for a wedding and traveled after for about a week. On the week after we went 2 nights in Porto, 2 nights in Pinhao in the Douro Valley, 1 night in Porto, 2 nights back in Lisbon (we had to make it back to fly out of Lisbo...

re: looking for Portland, Maine travel recs - wahootiger
I'd recommend Bao Bao if you like Asian food. Also, we took the ferry over to Peaks Island, rented bikes, and road around. Good activity for a half day. There was also a pretty good restaurant across from the bike rental with great views of the harbor....

Weekend in Toronto - Recommendations? - wahootiger
Ms. Wahootiger and I will be heading to Toronto this weekend for a wedding (which happens to be right in the middle of the LSU game - but they are Canadians with no affiliation to LSU, so I can't really blame them). Any recommendations on what to do in the city? We are early 30s, like to eat, dr...

Sorry to hijack, but does anyone have any experiences with late September in the Amalfi and Tuscany. Thinking about a honeymoon there next year. TIA!...

re: Italy trip average costs - wahootiger
hungryone
Thanks for the tips. It would be 5 nights but only 4 full days on the Amalfi Coast, as the bookends would be travel days. Still too much time? We're pretty active travelers, but, as this is our honey moon, I want to have a lot of relaxing time as well. We defini...

re: Italy trip average costs - wahootiger
4 cities, 12 days. Florence, Sienna, Positano, Rome
Sorry to hijack. GynoSandberg, We're thinking of a similar trip for our honeymoon (most likely late September 2019). I am thinking fly into Florence, get to Siena. 2 nights in Siena, 2 nights in Tuscan countryside, 2 nights...

re: Can anyone talk to me about Portugal? - wahootiger
Portugal is dope. We did Lisbon (cascais), Porto, Douro Valley, then back to Lisbon last year. Early 30s with no kids, so I can’t speak to that. If you like sea food you will love the cuisine, those folks know their way around octopus and cod. We pretty much ate, drank, and walked around a...

re: Tell me about Corpus Christi, TX - wahootiger
I liked it, but I don’t know if my situation was typical. I worked the rigs from three to midnight, on the Corpus Christi Bay. I’d get off and drink til day light and sleep the morning away. Again, worked for me and my brother (he was always on the run). Not for everyone....

re: Basque Country Question - wahootiger
Probably San Sebastian, but I really liked Logrono and La Rioja. San Sebastian is the bigger city, has more going on, and is the culinary capital of the area/on the forefront of modern European cuisine. Pintxo culture is awesome. There is a good strip of Pintxo bars in Logrono, but not as renow...

re: Charlottesville Virginia Places to Eat/Drink - wahootiger
The Virginian also has huge sentimental value.
Same here. $2.00 rails on Thursdays will always hold a special place in my heart. That, and the sheer amount of cigarette smoke that was created in those booths. To answer the OPs question, Cville has a ton of great restaurants an...

re: Basque Country..experiences? - wahootiger
When are you planning on going. We went in late May, which is before the weather traditionally gets real nice. It was forecast for rain every day but we got really lucky and only had one bad day, and had plenty of sunshine. The positive about going then is that it's shoulder season so nothing w...

re: Basque Country..experiences? - wahootiger
Warheel, Sorry, just seeing this post. We rented a car to get between cities and just parked it when we got to a location and used public transport/walked to get around the cities. I would recommend going the car route, as it allows you to see some cool towns and out of the way places. Our t...
