Ate at the Gonzales one over the weekend, this is a good thing for the other restaurants.

Mike Anderson’s Seafood restaurant has two new co-owners—Harry and Chip Robert, who are the brother-in-law and nephew, respectively, of the eponymous restaurant’s founder, Mike Anderson, Sr.

The Roberts, who for 30 years have owned and operated the Mike Anderson’s restaurant in Gonzales, are buying an equity stake in the restaurant chain, which has three locations in Baton Rouge, Central and the New Orleans Riverwalk. Chip Robert will help run all three locations. His uncle and cousin, Mike Anderson, Jr., will continue to be part owners and involved in the operation, he says.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to be finalized this week, are not being disclosed. For Chip Robert, the opportunity to become part of the well-known seafood restaurant has long been a dream. As a college student in the 1990s, he worked at the chain’s signature restaurant on West Lee Drive, and for the past 15 years he has been involved in growing his family’s franchise-owned location in Gonzales.

He and Mike Anderson Jr. began discussing a potential partnership early last year, and among his goals is to improve the overall cu

stomer experience at all Mike Anderson’s locations. “My plans are to focus on the restaurants we have and making them the best they can be and giving the Baton Rouge and Ascension Parish communities an experience that is a great experience,” Robert says.

“I want the food to always be spectacular and I want the service to be even better.” There are no plans to rebrand the restaurant or change its name or rustic décor. Eventually, Robert says the family may look at expanding the chain to additional sites but not anytime soon.

“Our focus right now is to try and make everything more consistent,” he says. “We’re going to make the food and the experience and everything more consistent across the board for everybody involved.”

So I guess they'll have meetings to discuss when to set the restaurant on fire again.

Did Mike teach them the proper form for slinging plates of food and cooking vessels across the kitchen before they took this on?

Good question. I believe it helps to get liquored up at the bar first and then venture into the kitchen.

Eta I'm certain all parties involved have seen plenty of outrageous shite over the years.

This is a solid move. Chip is a good guy and I've always enjoyed the Gonzales location.

Last time I went to Gonzales food and service was terrible, won't be going back anytime soon. Don's is a better option out that way now.

Quality at BR has been down awhile as well.
They better get their act together or they will end up like Ralph and Kacoos

Who's gonna be in charge of setting fire to the kitchen when it needs to be remodeled?

I don't know the BIL and nephew, but this can only help. Big Mike checked out 20 years ago and Little Mike isn't too sharp.

FYI, I worked there while at LSU.

I'd rather eat a booger than eat at Mike Andersons.

I have not been to the Gonzales one in probably close to a year, but I always found the food good and the service good. The one in BR is terrible and has always been terrible.

Don's? C'mon man. Just no.

Last time I ate lunch at the Mike Anderson's in Gonzales it took over an hour to get our food. Had to ask for the ticket before getting our food just to speed up the dining process.

We stopped and oysters there on the way back from the Zurich last Friday, beer was cold and oysters came out promptly
