First two things that came to my mind were king cake and jambalaya. Crazy. Doesn't mean I don't like them both though.

Yeah to answer the question like that for sure. I love red beans and rice, but its red beans and rice. I won't ever order it at a restaurant and I probably wouldn't tell anyone to eat it unless I made it. Raw oysters, on the other hand (since they were mentioned), are one of my favorite things in existence.

Amen, brother.

And I don't like raw oysters either. I can eat them fried if I have to.

I didn't know there was a rating system on any Louisiana food.

Ya'll must all be from that food mecca of Houston.

No, but I don't rank every Louisiana food item on par with itself, and thus by definition I rank Louisiana food items. I think that's base human logic personally, but if you want to consider it all one thing, do your deal.

I don't rank anything. I just eat good food.

Never had a raw oyster in my life - I really don't know why. But fried ones are some of the best food on earth!

I just find the notion of this thread funny. So far, Po Boys, Gumbo, Etouffee, Red Beans, Jambalaya, Muffalettas, Shrimp Creole, and King Cakes have all been labelled "overrated." So, is Louisiana food in general overrated? To most people outside of Louisiana, that almost covers all of the dishes the state is really known for (was crawfish mentioned? I forgot).

I'm not sure if I would really label shrimp and oysters as "Louisiana foods."

Note that I do not necessarily disagree that these foods are overrated, and I certainly do not take offense to ranking foods. I just find this thread interesting.

I think its more of an insight to specific people's tastes more than anything.

Has to be the king cake.

It's dry. But if you don't like cinnamon rolls, you won't like king cake.

Next on the list would be jambalaya.

I used to not like it, now I love it.

Muffelatas are too pickly/olivey for my taste, so I stay away. But those suckers are huge.
