Wife and I are taking a train from hammond to memphis after christmas. NO KIDS. Going to be relaxing and fun.

Staying on beale.

Any suggestions on restaurants? I havent been to rendezvous in 20 years.... so that will be on the list unless its really gone to shite.

would prefer stuff we could walk to eat...

Also anything fun going on the few days after the 25th?

Try the The Majestic Grille on main street, good restaurant in an old movie theater.
Majestic Grille
A more upscale restaurant is Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar, also on main street.
Flight
Another good restaurant McEwen's on Monroe

If you haven't had Gus's Chicken before go to the one on Front Street.

Flight for higher end. The food is good, but honestly not mind blowingly so. I’ve heard good things about Gray Canary but didn’t get a chance to try it out.

Not walking distance, but if you find yourself in midtown, Central BBQ for ribs was really good, Lucky Cat for excellent ramen, City & State for pour over coffee. Other mentions: Aldo’s pizza is pretty solid and KnifeBird for wine and charcuterie. Those are all the places we tried last weekend.

Memphis Zoo is great if you want something different to do. Get there early to see the big cats up and moving.

Go to one of the Hudman/Ticer spots downtown (Grey Canary or Catherine & Mary's, drawing a blank on the new spot). Besides some places already mentioned, Itta Bena above BB King's on Beale St is pretty good. Go to Earnestine and Hazel's one night after drinking and get a Soul Burger

Itta Bena and Flight are two I highly recommend in Memphis. Itta Bena is on Beale and Flight is only a couple blocks away. I love the concept at Flight, and the food is pretty solid.

Catherine and Mary
Grey Canary
Bishop

All of these are Ticer/Hudman spots downtown. These are the hotshots in Memphis. You should go to one if not all of these.

Gus’s for chicken
Central for BBQ
Felicia Suzanne’s or Itta Benna or McEwens for fine dining

Flight is way overrated.

Gould’s for massages.

All within walking distance of Beale.

Gray Canary, Flight, Itta Bena, Felicia Suzanne's. Can't go wrong with any of them. Get a drink or two at Mollie Fontaine's, Peabody lobby is pretty nice around Christmas.

This. Old school decor in a classic romantic setting. Maybe ask for balcony seating to really take it all in. You will get laid after cocktails and dinner here.

go to Gus's

Also, you have to go to graceland. walking into his house is like getting in a time machine and going back in time.

Elvis was a total boss. even if you're not a fan, its a must see.

Flight... It’s not overrated. But it’s not like there’s one thing on the menu that’s the greatest thing ever. It’s really really solid food with a cool concept. It’s worth the experience.

We ate at 117 Prime in March and it was really good. I think it had only been open a couple weeks or so. It’s like half a block from the Peabody so you could do drinks in the lobby before and/or after.

The ducks march out at 5 I think so it’s crowded as shite, but it’s fun seeing the kids being honorary duck masters. I like to get up on the Mezzanine and look down so you can people watch.

Never been to Itta Bena, but have heard good things.

Majestic Grille has an excellent brunch. Never been for dinner.

Automatic Slim’s has good diner type breakfast. They got some cinnamon roll pancakes with cream cheese icing or something that are awesome, but sit quite heavy. It’s across the street from the Peabody.

I don’t know who’s playing in the Liberty Bowl, but there will be some fans of those teams around.

It’s a pretty decent time to be in town. Not too crowded, but not dull either.

See what’s going on at the Orpheum.

If all else fails, Graceland.

Don’t get that huge arse bucket drink at Silky’s.

I’ve been mildly shocked I didn’t fear for my life the last couple times I’ve gone to Memphis.

There’s one not too far from Beale Street

I walked to it from the other side of Beale Street a couple of months ago

Rendezvous is better though IMO. I think the owner died recently (a few weeks ago- last time I was up there)

Rendezvous was still as good as I remembered when I was there about 3 months ago.

The one by Lorraine Motel where MLK Jr got shot?

It’s probably like 6-8 blocks from Beale.

If you don’t want to walk the whole stretch, you can go one block to Main St and get on the street car to get back to Beale.

I've eaten a ton of Memphis bbq and can honestly say that the only reason to go to rendezvous is the cool factor. Bbq is just not that good comparatively.

Gus's is t bad but growing up with a grandmother from the delta makes me view it as good but nothing amazing. If I'm going for chicken I want uncle lou's. Just be prepared to druve through the hood.

If your willing to drive a bit hog and hominy is one of my favorites

The Spaghetti Warehouse has great food. It's located in a old historic train depot building and is a short taxi/Uber ride from Beale Street.

Yep. That’s the one.

It was a nice little hike over there, but I decided to Uber back after eating all of that BBQ
