I want to mimic her recipe:
It was in a casserole glass pyrex:
- graham cracker crust
- chocolate pudding(?) i think
- cream cheese mixed with..something?
- cool whip (normally i hate cool whip in favor of fresh heavy cream but it works in this application
- chopped pecans..
I can't remember if there was anything else; has anyone ever made this? its been years since i had this but remember you'd cut it like brownie squares and it was delicious.

Yes, it's Mississippi Mud Pie or I've heard it called Four Layer Delight Here is the recipe I have for it.
Crust: 1 stick butter; 1 cup flour; 2 cups pecans chopped very fine ( use food processer if you have one). Melt butter; mix butter, pecans and flour in oblong pan (I use glass) and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool.
Filling: One, 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese; 1 cup powdered sugar; 1/2 of 12 oz. Cool Whip. Combine all ingredients and beat until well mixed.
1 Large Package of instant chocolate pudding; 2 cups milk; Mix together for 2 minutes.
Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cooled crust. Spread the pudding over the cream cheese mixture and top with remaining cool whip.
Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top. Refrigerate; may be frozen

Yummy pie. Donald Link has a variation of it in one of his cookbooks. Chocolate Yummy
I've made it a couple of times. I usually blend the cream cheese with whipped cream to lighten it. My kids love it and I remember it being the dessert I would get when I was a kid at i Monelli in Lafayette.

Back in the day Mississippi Mud was a completely different dessert, all chocolate, and the dessert the OP is talking about was called Chocolate Delight, or Four Layer Delight. Two completely different desserts. At some point people started calling this one the wrong thing. I refuse to call it that!!

Four Layer Delight.
That's what we called it. I don't know when it became known to some as MS mud pie.

LA has gumbo, crawfish, jambalaya, boudin, andouille, etouffee, sauce picant, ponce. The list goes on and on.
At least let us have MS mud pie, catfish, and sweet potatoes in MS.

We always just called it "Layer Pie". It's been my favorite holiday dessert for easy 30 years now! It's one of those that my mother will still make now without asking because she knows it's my favorite. She's a good woman.
