Good place. Sorry to see it go, but at least Katie's is on the same block.

I wouldn’t imagine it being a F&d favorite but Saturn Bar is up for sale as well.

I saw that the other day about the Saturn Bar. I can remember when they did have a small boxing gym set up in the back room. Yeah, I'm that old.

This place is a neighborhood gem. Also that area is booming with all of the new residential development on Bienville behind Rouses and the bayou/greenway.

Its also two blocks from the streetcar, so could be a destination spot if someone did it right. Also not sure the neighborhood/zoning would allow it, but could work as a casual bar with good food, that stays open a little later, maybe till midnight?

Started going to the Saturn in the late 70s. Back then it was a beer geek haven - had a bunch of hard to find imports. Will miss the Monday King James shows.

I can only see this going one of two ways:

Someone like Sidney Torres or the Motwani's buy it for the name and keep it operating under that name and similar but cut costs...

Or some hipsters that operate a place like Turkey and the Wolf or something buy it for location and put a completely new concept in there.

If that happens, they would likely lose much of the current customer base that has kept that place running for decades.

People that go to Liuzza's are looking for their "comfort food" that they've been eating for a long time and would likely not welcome much change in the menu.

Why can’t someone just run it mostly the way it was? They had great po’boys that weren’t overpriced in a nostalgic setting. They also had some solid Italian plate lunches and those big frosted beer mugs. If I owned the place, all I would do is maybe try to add more taps to throw a couple good local beers next to the bmc, and that’s it. Liuzza’s is one of many restaurants struggling 99% due to Covid. It wasn’t a tourist spot, it’s a local joint and a cop hangout. They don’t need to be serving french polynesian fusion cuisine through a deconstructed quiche on burlap or whatever the hipster foodies are doing these days. They don’t need to be a fancy white tablecloth Italian creole restaurant where the entrees are $30-50 a plate either. F$&k Latoya and short-sighted landlords for destroying great neighborhood haunts like this one. New Orleans is a lesser city without Liuzza’s. I really wish that I could buy it for me and my friends to run.

I haven’t been this sad about a perminent restaurant closure in New Orleans since Nino’s on Carrolton or the City Park Bud’s Broiler closed.

I mean, that would be the point.

My point was that someone is either going to buy it for the name and keep it mostly the same except for cost cutting...

or because of the location and where that neighborhood is now, you'll see an entirely new concept that doesn't even want the Liuzza's customer base.

Yep, and Mandina's is just a short walk down the street on Canal and Venezia is pretty close on Carrollton Ave. between Iberville and Canal.

Three other great choices for you dining dollars.

The Eggplant Vatican at Venizia's is one of my favorites from there.

Maybe that same customer base is the reason for selling

It also could be that the family just doesn’t want to run it anymore. They’re probably on their 3rd generation of family owners and it’s possible they don’t have kids that want to take over, so they’re selling to retire.

That’s the perfect business to buy! However, with a asking price of $2.5M for the building rent will be high if you can get them to agree to simply rent.

Who owns it?

I could be wrong, but I think the building goes with it. This appears to be a sale of the building AND the business.

Damn, Liuzza’s is one of my favorite old hole-in-the-walls. I’ve been getting frosted mugs of root beers and frenchalettas there since before I could see over the counter.

True that. Sad to see her go. It was a staple in our families eat out rotation. My first visit was probably in the mid 60's.

That is a long time NO institution. Would be a real loss if it closes or changes to something else. Always loved going there. Ice in the urinals is a nice touch.

They make a damn good and very underrated pizza pie as well. Although I haven’t been in a couple of years.

I got a Frenchaletta and an order of fries from there to go last night and when I went to pick it up at 6:30, they had one couple at the bar eating and having a few drinks and one table, also in the bar area with 4 women eating and drinking.

No customers that I could see in the dining room. But then again, it was Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, so I'll assume plenty of people were home getting things done for today.
