Ok I don’t have much to add to this thread as I am not much of a drinker but I am curious about this Courtyard owner. What’s he done to make people not like him?

Great location, solid beers and pretty cool spot for hanging.

Not mentioned so far but one of my favorites at the moment is Zony Mash. Their sours are some of the best, if you like the tart style rather than the smoothie style. Love Side Eye and King of Carrot Flowers. I just tried Pleasure Pattern double IPA and Joie. Both outstanding. And their stout Lit AF is great. They have a really nice outdoor space now too.

Seventh Tap is doing good things. If/when they start distributing to south LA, you guys should seek their stuff out.

We've started getting it in BR. The 2 beers I've had from them have been solid. I had the Mole Stout, and the citra Dividend

I will say that Big Fatty is much better on tap than bottled.

Maybe the bottling is the issue.

When Big Fatty first come out, I couldn't buy enough 4-packs. Was honestly one of my favorite Top 3 or so IPAs brewed in Louisiana.

Then something funky started happening and I quit buying it at the stores.

I've never been to Parleaux. I'll have to give it a shot some time.

He directly funded the group that tore down the confederate statues. He was also extremely vocal in favor of strict shutdowns all through Covid, I guess assuming that he had the capital to survive where many of his competitors did not. He is a huge GOTV supporter for the mayor, who is much reviled by literally anyone who doesn't live in Orleans Parish.

He was also in favor of jailing the unvaccinated, punching conservative protestors, charging conservatives with hate speech, labeling basically anyone who disagreed a white nationalist, etc. He just did literally everything possible for people who are not extremely left wing political people to dislike him.

This board only cares about IPA's and sometimes sours and stouts. None of those are Abita's forte. Abita's competency is wheat beers and fruit beers. They also put out one of the worst beers of all time, called Jockimo IPA that single-handedly insured that most people in Louisiana will never try another IPA (it was that bad). Abita was the state's first craft brewer and had essentially a 15 year head start on everyone else, so they still have a huge market share and distribution advantage over smaller craft brewers that the board prefers.

The reality is that the money in beer is not in appeasing beer snobs. Beer snobs want beer that is only really desired by beer snobs, they're not that large of a percentage of the overall beer market, and they're extremely fickle. As soon as a beer that they covet becomes readily available to them, they become board with it and move on to some new fad.

Abita figured this out quickly and really goes after the mainstream BMC (bud/miller/coors) drinker. To them, drinking Abita is an upscale local option rather than an exercise in taste-making. As a result, they mass produce beer that most beer drinkers that primarily smash light beer like Michelob Ultra would want to drink. That market doesn't really want innovation, they want consistency and beer that's a good "change of pace" from what they're already drinking. As a result, Abita has made a mint selling fruity wheat beers (which to beer snobs is considered as "bitch drinks") and the occasional Andygator (which is a doppelbock).

So, a board of primarily beer snobs hates the brewery that doesn't make products geared towards them while simultaneously holding the largest market share in the beer market.

They downvote my posts, I assume, because I don't typically care for beers that are super sour or bitter, and thus have tastes that are VERY out of sync with the rest of the board.

I’ll also agree with Parleaux putting out some of the best beers in the state.

My underrated vote goes to Old Rail in Mandeville. I’ve been to quite a few brewpubs and they are by far the best.

I've only been once, but found it pricy. The beers I tried were just okay, but the food was excellent. I'll return to try more at some point, though.

or...because you just went on a five paragraph rant about beer while making sweeping generalizations about an anonymous message board, and sounded like a douche doing it.

Scott is still in business? everyone makes atleast one beer that most everyone seems to like, drink what you like and who cares about the rest, plenty of breweries and plenty of beer to be consumed in Louisiana

So in a thread about Louisiana breweries, I made comments on said breweries. Were my generalizations that this board is far more interested in IPA's and sours than the general population not correct? I see what kinds of beers are posted in the BOTD threads, it ain't Mich Ultra. I'm sorry you're so insecure that you took my honest observation as some sort of a snub. There's nothing wrong with liking what you like.

I know that my tastes are very different from most of the active beer posters on here, and that's completely a-okay. I merely mentioned that so that someone who's not familiar with Louisiana's breweries, and has tastes more in line with the rest of the board would take my rankings with a grain of salt. It was more of a disclaimer about my tastes being different than an indictment on anyone else's tastes.

My first post in the thread was ratio'd to hell before I made the rant in the second post about why this board looks down on Abita.
