I have heard from at least 2 different and generally reliable sources that Kroger is looking to buy out Rouses and Rouses buying out Leblanc's was part of the deal. Anybody else hearing anything like this?

rouses has built a brand
I'm guessing the chances of your rumor being correct are 0.00%

now if the rumor was rouses buying Kroger that would make more sense

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I am not a fan of Kroger. Overpriced to say the least. Their signature stores are ok at best.

Besides, I really, really need an HEB-Rouses merger. Those two stores have a ton of similarities already. Rouses could pick up HEB tortillas and breads and a bunch of their branded items. HEB could dramatically improve their seafood and meat depts.

Rouses has 37 stores

Kroger has 2,778 stores

Maybe Rouses might but a couple of Kroger stores here and there to avoid antitrust issues or in markets where Kroger is reducing their footprint.

What would be the outcome of the deal?

To me, it doesn't sound good.

Went to one of the usta be leblanc's rouses in gonzales and was disappointed. Their sale paper was way diffferent from the one from Thibodeaux I get in my email and the quality of the veggies and meats wsere definatelly not Rouses I was used to. Folks who worked there were NOT happy with the buy out either.

Rouses is spending a ton of money building new stores from the ground up over the next 1-3 years.

These stores would be most valuable for a company like Kroger to purchase them in 3-5 years. Nothing short term is happening to Rouses except for them acquiring more stores.

The bought Leblanc I find differ from the Rouses they build ground up. They even carry and make different product in the deli and meat sections. This is quite obvious in the new location on Airline by Highland and all the former Leblancs.

I am sure Rouses will be courted and possibly bought at some point. That all depends on the price and what the family wants. Who knows. Money does talk and family owned businesses are always a good catch.

Kroger pulled out of Louisiana in the early 80's due to Union problems. They might think the time is right to come back into the market.

Give me Langenstein's all day long. Really don't like Rouses. It reminds me of Winn Dixie

Hopefully not. Kroger, at least where I live, has much lower quality meat and produce than say Publix. It's starting to remind me of Walmart.

Rouses major business is not visible to the retail consumer...it's in marine provisioning. So don't worry about them being bought out any time soon.
