what? you don't like liquid nitrogen cooled foods?
I don't do pretentious dining often. I'm usually a burgers, or Vietnamese bun guy.

Can't say I've ever had any.

Same here, two of my favorite foods. And I do eat.. not sure why you call it this but whatever, "pretentious" dining .. pretty often compared to most. But that doesn't mean I'm impressed with Kobe beef, caviar, $200 bottles of wine, eggs with crab meat and hollandaise, expensive sushi rolls drenched in mayo sauce w/ techno music playing in the background, or a $40 filet mignon w/ creamed spinach served a la carte for $10 bucks more. Just not my style.

Commanders is great for kids. I have brought mine there for many special occasions over the years. Antoine's and Galatoires may tolerate them, but at Commanders they will be treated like royalty.

Congrats on the successful trolling again.
Oh and spare me the it is a sad day when a man gets accused of trolling when he disagrees/calls something out routine.
I know he's already made up his mind but kids can go to any of the places talked about here. I've been as a kid and I've seen kids there.

I consider Casamento's old New Orleans and I could eat there once a week and be deliriously happy. Every meal there inspires me to return.
Absolutely. My cardiologist would prefer less often, though.
Of course, I never needed a cardiologist until a certain someone broke my heart and the proceeded to bleed me dry.

Nap, just give Commander's a call. They might even make up special meals for the girls with a heads up
Sounds perfect for what Napoleon is looking for.

Wasn't trolling at all .. just offering up my opinion. People are obviously free to disagree as vehemently as they wish.

Did you read the thread? Nowhere did I talk about kids not being welcome at any of these restaurants. I was discussing the inherent quality and value of 2 of the restaurants suggested.

Well I had the chefs table at that age at the original Village and Jack Sabins which was well before anyone called it a chefs table. It was just the owner having lunch or dinner with friends and not wanting to mess up a paying customers table.
It's apparent your parents didn't take you out for dinner much and by your posts I can see why. They were the ones telling my father " we can't bring our kid out to dinner like you. He's retarded."
I'm sure your Happy Meal was fine.

Nice .. wish I could have experienced something like that as a kid.

I would go to nicer restaurants growing up every once in a blue moon.. although there weren't a whole lot around and my folks weren't big on fine dining (they maybe did that 2 or 3 times a year). Usually though if they went out (especially with some friends) I stayed home with a babysitter. They weren't really the kind to bring their kids to a place meant for adults.

I need to plan for restaurant week earlier next year. I couldn't find a spot anywhere at August.
I know it's all adult places, but I want the girls to experience good food like I did when I was younger.
Thanks for the help and advice.

Call Commander's, Nap. Let us know how that works out. Historically, they have always tried to please.

I called both this morning. Antoine's and Commander's said they can offer kid friendly items.
Commander's even said they can feed them combos of whatever they want. A la cart. So the bacon lover can get her bacon, and the salad lover her salad.
Antoine's has a minimum of $11 per seated person, but that is not bad.
Commander's didn't give a minimum.
They both said well behaved children are welcomed. My mother said she wouldn't take a kid to Antoine's though.
I'm just going to do it. They are both booked.

August has a 645 and a 745 on Sunday, if you're okay with it not being Friday or Saturday night. they also have a 6p rez open Thursday.
ETA: maybe also consider Ralph's OTP which has 645 and 730 on Saturday. it's not on August's level or anything, but I think their food is pretty decent.

Go for it! Sounds like it will work out just fine and they will be thrilled to be included. Report back.

Just got back from Antoine's the girls LOVED it. First off, it was very accommodating for kids. They were given colors and pages to color.
They were offered Chicken Tenders and Brobrant(sp?) potatoes. They also got Shirley temples and ice cream for dessert. Ironically their meals were more than our RW week meals, but we had a good time. Great service, I got the 25 cent martinis which were orange flavored, but good for a quarter.
We had a private dining room, The 1840 room. That was cool, quite a few tours came through, but it wasn't an issue. It was a cool experience. The girls loved it a lot. Which is all that matters.
I was surprised though by all the people in shorts and T-shirts, when we were all dressed really nice. It's too hot for long sleeves today, lol
I didn't see one mention of kids ever going to this place, but I was surprised by how accommodating they were.
Hope to compare it to Commander's tomorrow.

I had the Oysters 1-1-1 and the Pork loin stuffed with crabmeat over scalloped potatoes. She had the Vichyssoise, Veal cutlet over risotto and Cheesecake for dessert. I had the bread pudding for dessert.
It was funny when we got the bill/
Kid's desserts $7 each, their dinner $11 each, their drinks $6 each. Never had the kid's meal cost more than the adult one. But I thought it was a deal. Though I would like to eat of the original meu next time.
Also, the dishes weren't visually pleasing. Looked more of how I would plate at home. Though the ambiance was much better than I expected. You never go wrong with a private room. BUT the oldest did say, the dining room looked like one from the 'Haunted Mansion'. The kid's loved the tour, and the mardi gras rooms. I was happy with the 1840 room too. Was very nice having no other conversations but your own at the table. And the birthday girl enjoyed it.

Sounds like it was well worth the trip. I assume your food was good even though not visually lovely.

This may be the best thing on the menu at Antoine's.
Glad you had a good time.
Next year get rezzis earlier and hit August.
