$6 for a shirley temple . that you're ordering for a child, that's a bit of a slap in the face, IMO.

glad everyone enjoyed it though.

That's pretty standard rate for a Shirley. They have top 3 in the city too. Not a rip off IMO.

Commander's was very good, as was Apolline. Had a horrible experience at Bouligny Tavern after dinner. Will be posting reviews in the next few days.

Is it odd that Lilette is one of my favorite restaurants in town, yet I find Bouligny Tavern to be utterly horrid in every respect?

commander's was excellent, the girls loved brunch even more. I had the crab fritata and she had the Angus and eggs. kids had pancakes. pricey for breakfast but very good.
wanted to get the four course, but didn't want quail.

they want brunch every weekend. probably bring them to Elizabeth's next time.

The last two times I've been to Galatoires, Ive had some of the best overall dining experiences of my life.
Conversely I went to Bayona for lunch recently, I will never go back again. Terrible service, food was extremely meh, and the bill was about twice as much as what I would've paid for the food if I had the choice.
I agree that some of the old dames have struggled recently, but for the most part it is because of their management and consistency, not the style of food.
Places like galatoires continue to succeed because the food is very good. Despite serving (according to you) "boring arse oysters Rockefeller and black drum" (paraphrase).

It's a shame a place like A Mano closes yet Galatoire's, Commanders Palace, and Antoine's live on

this has to be a troll. can you go into anymore detail about what was so terrible about it?

What's your point here? I'm supposed to give them a pass on being shoddily run because it's a New Orleans institution and they are good at putting lump crab meat on top of fish?

yeah .. paraphrase for sure. because I've never talked shite about oysters Rockefeller. something like puppy drum though .. $25 for it @ Rue 127? they can gtfo.

No troll, I assure you. I had an oyster gratin, which was the special that day. The flavor was ok, pretty one note. But here's the thing that chaps my arse, there were two oysters. Two. So i'll pay $18 for two oysters with breadcrumbs and béchamel sauce. Seriously?

No you missed the point here. Don't give places like brennan's a pass. They didn't produce good food. That's the ultimate reason why it ended up failing. Galatoires consistently puts out good food. Granted, I don't live in NOLA, so I don't go to Galatoires every week, but I go often enough to where I can tell they are consistently good.

Sorry, your words were "shrimp remaloude and black drum" with some smart arse comment to follow. Fact is that both of these items result in very good dishes at Galatoires.

Last couple of times I've been there, they've had at least 4 different fresh fish options -- black drum just being one of them.

I got the pompano the last time, which was as good as any fish dish I've had anywhere else in town.

So many here want to be the cool contrarians, though, to the point they've become their own cliche.

Damn that is ridiculous. I would have been peeved as well. Just crazy to hear someone lambast Bayona because the few times I've been I thought the service was excellent and the food makes it a top 3 restaurant in Nola for me. It's just that good. But yeah 2 oysters for $18 is awful.

I think it should be noted that there's a difference in food being good, and a certain style of food not being someone's preference. Also have to factor in price of course. And I just don't think, from the things I've heard from people's whose opinions I respect about food, that Antoine's is anything but a huge ripoff. Galatoire's has it's quality dishes I'm sure .. but I think some people judge it off of it's atmosphere and history before their food. At least it seems that way in some reviews Ive read.

This is just not true. Yes you have to wear a jacket at dinner. But the food is excellent. No they don't play phish over the PA system, and no they don't serve lobster foam, but what are you really wanting to pay for?

Antoines is teetering the line. They have a very good brunch. Need to step it up, but its not a ripoff.

I think the place needs a complete overhaul myself. I don't even mean changing the menu.
