Stopped at Kartchners in Scott and brought home packaged smoked pork sausage and boudin.

Boudin was great.

Sausage was not good. Very lean and dry and lacking flavor. Was disappointed.

But I would stop for their boudin again.

I find the smoked sausage at Kartchner’s to be very good.

I think that their boudin is good, not great. Their apple/smoked bacon/maple syrup smoked sausage is one of my favorites. My favorite of all their items are the boudin maple wraps.

I get the smoked sausage quite often and haven't found it to be dry. I also buy the green onion smoked sausage often. Their smoked hocks are really good for beans, peas and soups. I keep those stocked in the freezer, vac sealed in portions.

Agree on the boudin. On par with Billy's smoked boudin.

Smoked sausage is comparable to Teets and Rabideaux's.

I guess any place cam booger up a batch from time to time.

I think their smoked boudin is some of the best boudin I've ever eaten. On a related note, I picked up some brisket boudin from Blanchard's BBQ yesterday and it was just as good if not better.

I find everything they make is outstanding. There cooler selection has some of the best.
Stuffed Rabbit is awesome, blood boudin is great, and love the chicken or the duck sausage.

Yes, love the hocks for beans and soups.
Love the smoked sausage for beans and gumbos. can't say I've grilled and eaten it plain. maybe that's why I've never found it dry.

I picked up one pack of that last time I was at their Scott location. Wasn't sure how much we'd like it. Ended up splitting long-ways, grilling in black cast iron and eating on Evangeline Maid bread. It was delicious.

Also, as far as syrup in sausage goes, the Steen's syrup pork sausage from Nunu's is fantastic as well. I always make sure to reload on that when back in Acadiana.

I don't like their regular pork sausage, but they do a good job with the steens and cheese stuff. I love their boudin, but hogs head cheese is the best around.

I much prefer VP sausage over billys or kartschners.

That's what I was thinking. Was just wondering if there was another delicious meat market I had never heard of.

Personally, I think Kartchner's andouille is on par with Teet's. Enjoy both very much for chicken & sausage gumbos.

I usually love their sausage. I keep several pounds in the freezer for multiple uses. BUT, I hope I got a mislabeled pack of deer/pork smoked sausage because it was so incredibly hot with black and cayenne pepper I was up all night on the john and I can eat some fairly spicy foods.

VP = vacuum packed in the sausage industry. Assuming this is why the poster meant.

When I did my boudin thread not long ago, Kartchner's finished 7th out of the 11 samples I tried. It wasn't bad, but just didn't stand out.
