This is the fourth time I have eaten there and I love the steaks. Always cooked to perfection. The crab and corn bisque was good as well.

However...

The sides were awful. The salad is boring (iceberg lettuce, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil) and the green beans ($4 a bowl) were straight from a can and unseasoned.the boiled potatoes are just bland, boring potatoes.

I didn't have the tamales this time (I've had them before and enjoyed them) que the tired hormel chili references

A friend got the mashed sweet potatoes and they were good (very sweet)

But I love the steaks and will always return for them

I have been to the original's Doe's in Greenville, MS. I have no idea why they don't serve a wedge salad with chunky home made bleu cheese dressing.

I thought the fries were the best side. The steak is great, and the dessert is pretty good.

this would make more sense than the throw-away salad they serve

That salad is traditional...

I know it's traditional, buy it's not good. Iceberg lettuce with garlic and a 10:1 ratio of lemon juice:olive oil. A blue cheese wedge salad would be awesome.

they should have more options for sides/salads.

but, but, but, that's what they taste like and even have the same texture, although, the chilli topping is pretty good.. not as good as Wolf Brand, but, better than Hormel..

Ate at Doe's 1 time and the steaks were great. As for the sides, we ordered the fries and the mac and cheese and both were excellent.

Also those little sweet rolls they give you are addicting, lol.

I love the place, even what most consider the throwaway salad they GIVE you.

Both are great if you're not trying to go light. Although, if you're about to take the business to a 24 oz. ribeye, light isn't really the goal.

I enjoy the tamales as well, and the salad might not be the best ever, but I still eat it whenever I go.

I still havent given the place a second shot. I only went the first week they opened and it wasnt that great. Of course the biggest issue was the fact that we didnt know how casual it was. My wife dressed up as if it were still Chicago's.

Never been to the one in BR, but this thread reminded me I need to take a trip to Greenville, soon. Nothing like waggin a handle of Charter and a magnum of red through the kitchen, dodging the smiling wait staff and cooks, sitting at a table on a 30 deg slant, preparing you stomach for 2 lbs of red meat by ingesting copious amounts of BBQ shrimp, whiskey, and hot tamales, then washing down the coma inducing bloody steak with solo cups full of red wine. The only thing that place needs is more room in the kitchen to get a gurney through and someone to roll you out.

I love Doe's...and I've actually had better steaks at the one in BR than the original in Greenville.

But, nothing tops walking through the kitchen in the original and seeing them cook the fries in a iron skillet that's been there sinced they opened. The atmosphere there is great, and Little Doe is the man.
