There isn't one restaurant in this whole state as well as Mississippi that serves catfish that isn't farm raised frozen fish.

And there is nothing wrong with it either.

Fleur dis Lis is a dump. It's the Johnny's of Baton Rouge.

I had not eaten Fleur dis Lis in about 4 years until last week. It was not bad but I was surprised actually how similar it tastes to Johnnys.

Wrong on both. It's not a dump. It's a hole in the wall restaurant. And that makes all the difference. And haven't you heard? F de L is getting a face lift. They're fixing up the outside, putting fresh makeup on that old hag. Show some respect for the elderly.

Been in BR for 28 years and can say with certainty that Fleur De Lis is some of the most overrated pizza in the city. Hell, Papa Johns is better IMO.

In your opinion, what isn't overpriced? Mcdonalds and Wendy's?

solid is a gross overstatement. Less than desirable would be a more accurate depiction. None of the aforementioned establishments hold a candle to its south Louisiana counterpart.

Don't know what establishment would meet your refined palate approval. If you think all of these are less than desirable, I can't help you.

Also, not sure any of these have a "south LA counterpart and didn't know that was a requirement to have good food. Most of them are unique to the area and offer things you can't get elsewhere.

There are a few pretty good Mexican restaurants in Monroe/westmonroe. Also there is some really good ethnic resturants in nela.we have 4-5 family owned Vietnamese,Thai,Laos places that are really good. Not sure if it has to do with the collage but these have really started to pop up the last 5-6 years. Athena is solid Greek/Lebanese. The older Italian resturants that are family owned are good. Geno's, genusas, Cascios are all good authentic Italian. What we have better than south la in my opinion is southern cooking/soul food plate lunch places. Monroe has about 5-6 of these that are out of this world. I lived in Acadia parish for a while and was constantly eating all across south la and I loved every meal ha. So don't get me wrong I'm not comparing north la food to southla food, we just can't compare in sheer numbers or originality. With that said southla people who say all north la food sucks are simply ignorant. And I don't get the johnnies problems. I've never had a good pizza in south la but it's not exactly like south la cuisine is known for pizza. Johnnys in Monroe is my favorite in la and my friends from south who I went to collage at ULM with will buy johnnys in Alexandria drive it 2 hours and it is still there favorite pizza. They and their family are crazy about it now.

It's amazing how you guys fall for this and come unglued at the seams every time .. PA is trolling you guys and you continually bite .. You guys are purported gourmet cooks that can whip out 5 restaurant quality meals on a work night .. You have impeccably refined culinary tastes .. But you can't resist being drawn into an argument over Johnny's Pizza ? This is daily -- over and over and over .. You act like 8-year old girls arguing over who's going with what "totally fine" 9-year old boy .. Seriously .. He's fricking with you .. You can neither see that nor resist it ?

You obviously haven't tried to have good pizza. There are some great pizza places in New Orleans.

Everyone from North Louisiana raves about Johnny's. I have yet to figure out why.

It is amazing, but I got back from West Monroe today after a 1 week visit and I ate at different Johnnys locations 4 times and it was fantastic! The service was great, the pizza came out fast and it was as good I ever remember it...so good I bought 3, froze them, and brought them back today and let my kids and wife's family try it and they were blown away. I know the manager at the Warren Dr location and he said the issues they are having is the franchised locations. These were all company owned stores I ate at and there were no issues what so ever.

Something about the egregious fatties of Monroe/West Monroe just don't tend to care for good food. They support mediocrity, so mediocrity grows.

People really need to get out of Louisiana if you truly want bad food. I live in Virginia and north Louisiana's food is off the charts good compared to this crap up here!

Hold the frick up. Look. I'll defend NELA against people that bash it arbitrarily. But come on. You ate Johnny's 4 times in a week? GTFO. There are things called outliers. You are one. Your opinion is discredited. You need to branch out, my friend.

Go straight to Hades Toecutter. Johnny's pizzas are fabulous, you're just a snob against the North.

They have the coldest beer and iciest mugs too.

The owner of the Highland location was my landlord in college. Owns a couple of properties in Southdowns. He was a huge a-hole and definitely stopped giving money to Johnny's after that. Lied about reasons for charging us extra.

Man this place gets complicated sometimes.

I'm thinking Otis, PA and Lester may all be one person now.
