Doing it with a newly-installed sunroof in your kitchen, also courtesy of Ida?

Yeah that definitely sucks even worse. If that's your situation, I'm sorry and I definitely feel for you.

eta

you got the blue roof already right?

No, we actually made out like bandits for Ida. Lost power for a week, but that was it.

However, a lot of people lost a lot more than white goods. Just saying.

We were able to salvage a few things ahead of time but we knew we were going to lose some things as well
Luckily we had a place to stay with power after storm and we brought the most expensive things we had

Yes.. eating something you should of thrown away would be more sickening......But I get you, lost my fridge / freezer and had to throw it all out this go around too, pretty sickening seeing the prices of new fridges as well

Let it re-freeze if possible and Vicks vapo rub helps. If you can get camphor blocks, they’re a good bit stronger than vicks.

I have a couple of small containers of vicks. Do you just open the container and just set it in there?

Try watching your mother die a slow death from cancer for a few years and then take her off life support for the grand finale.. That really sucks, hope your insurance check for your costco food makes you feel better

After we tried that stupidity at a few houses after Katrina, there was no more cleaning out fridges. We duct taped that thing up and hauled it to the road.
Rotten meat and seafood smelling up for three weeks really sucks.

Buying hotdogs for dinner because the gumbo and etouffee and sauce piquant and spaghetti sauce and beef borguignon and fettuccine sauce and meatballs and chicken big mamou and lasagna and chicken florentine and shepherd's pie that you kept in your freezer for midweek meals is in the trash.

I'll yield to the Ida sunroof, though. That's worse.

I don't understand throwing fridges away, though. Why did it get to that point in the first place? If you evacuate, you do that before you leave and if you don't evacuate, there's plenty of time after the hurricane to empty it out while you're sweating without electricity.

Yeah, I could have worded that better. The vicks or camphor is to rub in your nostrils to dull the rotten smells.

Our camp freezer was so bad, we just duck taped it shut and hauled it to the road. It was horrible! We lost so much meat.

Son has an apartment. He evacuated with some friends and I ended up going there and emptying his fridge and freezer. He got power back and went shopping today to restock. Of course, power went off an hour later. We don't have power yet so ice chests here we come.

Not if you have homeowners insurance. I’m starting to realize FEMA is only for the uninsured.
