Is it disrespectful to use the term 'the trinity' in the kitchen? (w/ poll)

To me, no one has reason to be offended by "trinity". It's different if the term used is "Holy Trinity". Catholics don't have a monopoly on the use of trinity.

3 ingredients. 1 in essence. Cannot be mixed or divided.

Teaching a Texan to cook jambalaya recently. He asked me if I use the Louisiana Trinity. I thought he was talking about meat, onions and rice. Never heard that lame term before.

No way I use that term, I say seasoning. But if it pisses some people off to use it maybe I should.

Some people need to get a freakin grip.

This thread surprises me. I've heard it used casually throughout my life in southwest Louisiana. It's shorter than saying onions, bell pepper, and celery It's definitely not something I'd look down on someone for saying.

South LA has historically been very Catholic. I think it probably started as a homage to that. No problem with it. I use it sometimes, if I'm explaining something about LA cooking to someone. I like the term.

I don't always use the term, but I sometimes do. No, I'm not going to stop using it just because someone decided to be offended by a term that no way disparages anything.

This country is so great and has so few actual problems that people find stupid shite like this to be offended over.

Most folk add white wine to their "holy" trinity for many dishes and ironically, when I first moved to Louisiana, I couldn't purchase wine on Sunday because it was the Lord's day. Because the Lord prevented me from buying this ingredient, perhaps it's fitting that the "holy" has been dropped from trinity.

Mirepoix FTW.

Anyone after Chef Prudimme that says it should be taken to the courtyard at Commander's and be doused with remoulade.

I've heard it referred to as trinity and also as a Cajun mirepoix. Call it what you want. I don't judge you until you reach for the tomatoes.

And don't forget that garlic added is the "pope"!
