Houston has really taken off bbq wise. They are a contender with Austin. But in reality, Texas in general is seeing a bbq renaissance

I'd put pecan lodge, Lockhart, hutchins, and cattleack against anything in the state.

Can't wait for a New Orleans opinion. Certainly you've tried them all in Houston already

Tried a few of them, along with the ones that are globally known for BBQ in another city in your state.

Your city is not THE destination for BBQ when you want to travel to Texas for Texas BBQ. It's good, but it isn't there. It could be in the future, who knows. We can all be biased in our own worlds though.

I'm gonna say no, even though I haven't been to most of those places. Central Texas, particularly Austin is leading the state. Though there has been a good trend of true central TX BBQ places opening in the Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.

Barbecue in Texas has exploded. Dallas has just as many great places as Houston and Austin has just as many with several of them in bicycling distance of each other. Houston homerism is a disease.

What do you normally get there? I got brisket & jap/ched sausage plate and while it was definitely good, I wasn't blown away. Sauce they included also seemed a little off, but it looked like there were a few to choose from if I had stayed.

I went on a rainy Sunday at 11am and barely anyone was there so that was nice.

Brisket, pork ribs, chicken, their tacos are great.

I'm not that big a fan of their jalapeno sausage, I think the deer sausage they have is the best of the 3 that they offer.

If it falls within our majestic 3 loops, it's Houston bub.

the next loop will probably take in Lockhart to truly put this question to rest

Have eaten at Pecan Lodge and Hutchins and I agree with this. It's not that only Houston has great BBQ. It's that we're getting more and more great BBQ - outpacing the competition.

DFW folks--don't forget about Heim BBQ on Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth.

Travis is killing it over there.
