Interesting Liquor Laws, State to State

Growing up in Louisiana, you don't recognize how relaxed our liquor laws until you visit elsewhere. I do remember walking through a grocery store when I was a kid and the "liquor" was covered with sheets or the like on Sunday.
I'm not sure it's a law, but I'm guessing the few restuarants that I noticed in Bama this weekend that displayed signs "1.5 ounces of Liquor in all drinks unless ordered special" wasn't done voluntarily. Did bama have an issue of how much liquor is a drink? Not alcohol, but liquor.
I was pleased to be able to buy a single beer at a stop in MS, which I recall years ago I couldn't... but I think that was a Jackson thing. You had to buy a whole 6 pack. Makes perfect sense.
Any other laws/regs that you've seen that you find interesting?

In Tennessee there is no open container law, as long as the driver is not drinking.

My wife and I went to a concert in Southaven, MS (Memphis burbs) awhile back. We had to go to the grocery store to buy beer and the liquor store to buy wine.
The liquor store couldn't sell beer for some reason

Not nearly as much interesting as it is annoying as hell:
It's illegal to have happy hour in Massachusetts involving alcohol. You can have happy hour deals on food, but not on drinks.

Texas is gay.
On Sunday you:
Can't buy liquor or anything above 17%
Can't buy beer or wine until noon
Can't buy drinks at a restaurant until 10AM, but must be with food
Can't buy drinks at a restaurant until 12 without food

In Mississippi it's legal for the driver to be drinking, as long as they aren't over the legal limit.

In MS you can't sell beer with an ABV over 10% ABV

Houston TX was the only place I've ever been cut off. After two margaritas. With food. Couldn't believe it.

I'm pretty sure in Utah you can only order one drink at a time. So, say, if you wanted a beer and shot, you'd have to order the shot, drink that, then order the beer.

Utah apparently limits the max alcohol content for beer to 4% unless you go to the state store.

Was the place called Trudy's? I think someone sued the bejeesus out of them a while back after a bad drinking and driving accident. They used to tell you ahead of time when you ordered the Mexican Martini's that you were automatically cut off after the 2nd and give you an opportunity to orders beers in between. I don't even think they allow that any more. Needless to say, I haven't been back in a while but they do have a stuffed avocado that's pretty damn good.
Re: state to state laws, restaurants in Atlanta weren't allowed to sell bloody marys (or any alcohol) on Sunday until noon. Kind of ruins the whole brunch scene although I think they recently changed it to 11.

North Carolina has some crazy liquor laws too
Some friends came down from North Carolina for Mardi gras and couldn't believe how easy it was to buy liquor here...and they don't even ask for id...lol

Colorado had a similar law, could only get "3.2% beer" at grocery and convenience stores. Real beer had to be bought in a liquor store. That law was changed this year.

Lived in Bama most of my life and figured this was standard across the country, and more just to let customers know how much was in each drink.
There are still dry counties in this state, but they are dwindling. And they're really relaxed beer laws here over the past 10 years. And liquor can only be bought at state run ABC stores or package stores. ABC controls all liquor sales so they stuff you buy at the package store in marked up from the ABC stores. And the prices at the ABC stores are significantly higher than in neighboring states. I make a point to stock up on liquor when I'm in Georgia or Florida.

It wasn’t that long ago where I’m at in Louisiana that you couldn’t buy any alcohol on Sunday or after 10pm, one of the most popular grocery stores here still doesn’t sell alcohol on Sunday. We finally changed the law last year to allow restaurants to serve more than beer.

In California, you cannot enter a bar if they know you have already been drinking.
I was on a bachelor party this weekend. Me and a buddy are going meet up with the rest of the group, he brought a solo cup that had whiskey in it in the Uber. He drinks the whiskey, has an empty cup, gets out, goes to throw away, door guy takes cup and smells then tell my buddy about the law....we talked to others throughout our time and this is common

Huntsville and Birmingham have been slowly dragging the state in to the 20th century, much to the chagrin of the thumpers in LA and Montgomery.
I honestly didn't think the Free the Hops campaign would pass.
