My first time eating at In-N-Out was the most disappointed I have ever been with a meal. It’s mediocre at best, I don’t get the hype

Why would he be disappointed? It’s quick, consistent, good ingredients, and well priced.
It’s exactly what you’d hope for in fast food , nothing more of course. But some go in with unrealistic expectations. It’s basically the Chik-fil-a of burger chains
