I’m confused on the “whole bean” coffee thing.

1. What exactly is whole bean coffee? Is it exactly what it sounds like?
2. Do you wake up and grind it every morning to make yourself a cup/pot?
3. How long does this process take?
Someone educate me.
What is a good bean grinder for the money?

It takes 10 seconds to grind the beans for 8 cups worth of coffee using a decent burr grinder.

Same as a pot to brew 6-8 cups.

Grinding your own beans leads to a damn good cup of coffee.

Yep do it every morning. Even better if you get them from a local roaster. I've got a guy here in KC that is a micro roaster and has some of the best coffee I've ever had.

No such thing. Coffee needs to be ground in order for the oils to be extracted properly. If whole you'll get very little of it.

yes. it's quick, easy and far superior

about 30 seconds
Whole beans retain their oils much longer, thus tasting better and fresher. The moment you grind the beans is the moment they begin to dry and lose their oils and flavor.

You received good responses. It's 100% worth it. Takes me about 10 seconds (just push a button) to grind the set amount. Burr grinders used to be pretty expensive but are now far more accessible (unless using a manual, which I once did).
I've had an Oxo for about 3-4 years that is holding up well.

Fake News. You can brew with whole beans it just takes a lot more effort. People say it makes a better cup than grinding but I've never tried it.
RECIPE: Grinderless Brewed Coffee
Ingredients and Equipment:
Water, heated to boiling
Small sauce pot
1 pint Mason Jar
Whole bean coffee
Fill mason jar with coffee to the 3 oz level using the tick marks on the side of the jar.
Add 1 cup of hot water. If you use tick marks on the side, get the water level to one cup taking note that the coffee beans will float slightly above the water level.
Place the mason jar inside the sauce pot and then fill pot with more hot water to match the water level of the jar. Place pot on the stove and keep at a bare simmer (start with 50% heat on the stove and lower or raise if necessary) for one hour.
Carefully remove jar from water using tongs or a towel, then slowly pour brewed coffee into a cup, leaving the spent (and now much darker) beans behind.
Taste a truly unique and amazing cup of coffee and share with your friends.

Or better yet - roast yourself. It is easier and less expensive than most think. Amazing results with a stovetop popcorn maker.

Where is the best place to get coffee beans in BR? I've been going to whole foods but wondering if there is some place better.

What is the price range of a good Burr grinder?
I am looking at one from Target for $50. LINK
I would like to get into this, I love coffee but my Mr Coffee set up is getting old.

I’ve been buying bags from the local guys (French truck, titan, cafeciteaux) at Alexander’s in highland.

I have one of those. The grind is ok. It's a little messy.

Just go to Race Trac and pay less than $2 for the same thing. Its superior to Starbucks and PJ's and Dunkin. The beans aren't ground until you choose what you want on the machine.

I'm not sure what wakes me up more, the caffeine or the sound of the grinder when I turn it on...
