Is there a LA brewery you would choose over the best one of these. And which is it?

I really wouldn’t have a problem with any of them as long as I was getting fresh cans and taps. My least favorite would be New Belgium. Goose Island too except for that stout. As long as I could keep bud light of course.

Sierra Nevada for me, and it's not close. Out of that group, they make the best beers across all styles. It's very rare you get a SN that's a dud.

Bells comes in a distant second as they can do a wide range of styles, but just not wide enough for my fickle tastes. Stone has gone downhill some and somewhat refused to keep up with the times. New Belgium and Sweetwater make more ho-hum beers that appeal to the masses. GI only has their barrel-aged beers.

Seems clear he was just going for the 6 biggest/most well known "micro" breweries, for purposes of the exercise.

I'd probably go with Sierra Nevada, just because I enjoy visiting their place outside of Asheville, and I like their basic brews best. If I can only drink ONE brand of beer, I want to insure I have access to a decent basic brew amongst them. Their 'beyond basic' is good enough to satisfy other cravings.

Fortunately, nobody has to do this FOR REAL.

Other than their Celebration Ale that's a seasonal, they don't have a go-to, year round IPA that I enjoy. I do agree a lot of their other offerings are solid and more consistent than the others, but I mostly drink IPA's. Torpedo is okay, but not as good as Two Hearted, Stone IPA, or Voodoo Ranger, IMO.

I'll give the nod to THA over Torpedo, but both are really good. THA is a classic. I've never jived with Stone IPA, and Voodoo ain't really my thing either. Different strokes, I guess.

Hazy Little Thing, Fantastic Haze and Hop Bullet are all better year round Sierra Nevada IPAs than Torpedo, IMO. Hoptimum is another seasonal from Sierra that I like.

Bells

I've been to their brewery in Kalamazoo twice and they feature unique tap beer that they don't bottle. I haven't been there since they've expanded. Too bad we can't get the Special Double Cream Stout here in Louisiana because it's my favorite.

I got burned out on Goose having lived in Chicago. Their pub food was above average though.

Didn't care much for their hazy IPA's, nor do I care for the Bell's hazy either. I need to check out Hop Bullet again. I know I've had it, but just can't recall if I liked it. Guessing I didn't like it much since I can't remember.

Probably New Belgium due to their barrel program though

Wait, you said bad list, and then picked New Belgium because of their barrel aging program?! Over Goose Island, the brewery that invented barrel aging and has some of the most sought after BA beers out there?

I'd pick Goose Island BECAUSE of their barrel aging program. Hands down.

Check out this list: LINK (not pictured: New Belgium)

Depends on what kind of barrel program we're talking about. NB brought Belgian-inspired sours to the masses. GI brought high-end BA stouts to the masses. GI didn't start doing Belgian-sprired stuff until much later than NB. That said, I could die happy in either of their wood-aging facilities.

GI Matilda and NB Le Terroir are two of my favorites.

All of this is actually wrong

That being said, Goose Island is probably my pick, which just bothers me because AB

But an expansive lineup with few poorly made beers and some solid winners in the mix. Even their “Next Coast” attempt at haze is solid, if not on the level of people trying to do that style right.
