Not going to allow myself to get excited until I have a pie in hand.

It's a big leap from taking applications to producing pies.

The nostalgia of Hubig's Pies wore off me years ago, but for those that are looking forward to them starting production again, I hope this is a good sign.

I am just curious what a Hubig’s pie will cost. The other day I saw a knockoff from Haydel’s or Nonna’s for $4.50. Was thin and I put it down.

If it’s more than $2, I don’t want them.

I'm betting they will be more than $2 when they get back in business. Weren't they about $1 each by the time the fire took them off the market not long after they opened following Katrina.

This August will be 17 years since Katrina hit and a lot of things have gone way up in that amount of time.

I thought they had gone up to $1.19 that year.

They may have been that price since by that time I probably hadn't bought one in ages. I think the last time I had a Hubig's pie they cost $.50 each.

NOLA 3/22/21 Article - "Matter of months"

You can’t taste a freshly fried Hubig’s pie just yet. And Andrew Ramsey knows some locals still doubt they ever will again.

But Ramsey is confident the factory he’s building will soon be churning out the beloved little hand pies by the thousands, putting a revered local brand back in circulation.

After nine years in limbo, Hubig’s Pies are almost back. Ramsey, the next-generation owner of the company, won’t lay out any precise timelines. But as of today, he believes the pies will be back on store shelves in “a matter of months.”

As for price, I would say it will be well north of $2.00.

Let's not forget when they took money from all those loyal customers to reopen and promised each person who donated a case of free pies when they opened. I think that was the year after Katrina and I know people who put money in that pot.

I want to see if they pay off with the free pies.

They opened after Katrina in Jan. 06 and were up and running for 6 1/2 years but were shut down by a fire in their plant on Dauphine St. in July 2012 and have been out of business since then.
