Thanks for starting it. Actually I've been cracking up and got my answer so 2 birds. Also, I'm probably gonna watch Smoky after the draft ends.

I enjoyed watching a clip from the movie that forced me to ruin multiple sets of tires on my mom's Olds98, but what the hell is the application here?

you should not muddle a cherry
you should muddle an orange peel
*but the old fashioned recipes differ a little from person to person. whethers its simple syrup or insisting on a sugar cube, idgaf. some people put a shot of club soda at the top which sucks.
but at the end of the day it doesnt make that big a difference, its not like being served the wrong flavor daquiri which is just inexcusable

I've never had one with rye, only bourbon. Do you think I'd like it with rye? Do bars tend to carry rye?
An old fashioned is made with bourbon, not rye. A Manhattan, OTOH, was traditionally made with rye whiskey but now is more often than not bastardized with bourbon. Not too many bars even carry rye whiskey any more despite it being the essential ingredient of cocktails like the Manhattan and the Sazerac.
Ordering a call brand with an old fashioned strikes me as pretentious. I have a friend who makes me cringe whenever he orders a Crown Royal with Coke.

Funny how a classic cocktail can get people so worked up. Since when do you not muddle the orange in an Old Fashioned?
Side note, I ordered an OF at the Batch Bar on Iberville a couple of nights ago. The bartender was probably in his 60's and was training a younger guy how to make some cocktails. He showed him exactly how much Tropicana orange juice to put into my OF. Paid the tab and got the hell out of there.

so you didn't stop them? And you still paid for that? I'm scared to ask what bourbon they used

Say these words, an old fashioned please.
Posted on 5/12/14 at 1:58 pm to CITWTT
the actual way to order one, from which it got its name, is "Id like a cocktail, made the old fashioned way"
thats how it got its name The Old Fashioned.
