Which is what makes it trashy to put that on a menu.

I don't think i'd call the practice trashy. Agree or disagree with it all you want, but I'd hardly call it trashy.

Do they advertise that their menu prices are cash prices?

And to follow up on this, it is specifically advertised on the menu. Shows on the website menu as well.

No worries

I’ll just reduce the tip by that amount

The credit card expenses are tax deductible. So they are double dipping.

There is this riveting idea of paying with a debit card and not being charged 3%. I know that scares people though can't miss out on those points!!!

Nah, I just figured again you are ignorant and only factoring in one expense.

I'm ignorant for not thinking CC fees weren't a already baked into the menu price until 2024?

Exactly.

Should just be baked into the price, cost of doing business.

Next up, be ready to pay 2% extra if you watch TV at the bar, to offset their cable subscription.

Want to sit inside and enjoy A/C? 5% extra, to pay their electric bill.

Oh you wanted that chicken cooked? That'll be an extra 8% for gas and oil.

Meril does this. Love the restaurant but this pisses me off. There are WAY too many dining options in New Orleans for restaurants to give customers another reason to dine elsewhere.

You think cc fees stay the same forever?

They have gone up too. Inflation aint no joke. Every single little cost of operating a business has gone up.

If you don't understand how 3% eats into a business's profit like a restaurant, then your argument is worthless. There's a reason they do it and many know people don't like it. I don't like it either, but what's the alternative?

Raise the price of your entire menu 3%. Do you think anyone is going to avoid going to a restaurant if their bill is $154.50 rather than $150? Probably not, but someone might be annoyed that you are charging them 3% for a credit card fee. Like someone else said, we don't need to see how the sausage is made.

I ate at the Court of Two Sisters on Sunday and they have a 4% surcharge for a credit card.

These restaurants don't seem to be very good with consumer psychology. If they're going to do this kind of BS instead of just including CC fees in with all of the other little things that have traditionally been considered part of the cost of doing business, they should at least advertise that they offer a 3% "discount" to customers that pay with cash instead of saying that there is a 3% surcharge for paying with a CC.

It should be baked into the price, but what's happening is all the credit card processing companies started buying the Point of Sale companies. So they offer you free equipment if you charge the 4%. So a processing company used to get the regular 2.3%, now you charge the customer 4% and they charge the business 3.86% and the business is moronically happy bc it's getting free equipment and not paying the fee, the processing company just boosted it fee from 2.3% to 3.86% and the customer just thinks 4% is what is the processing fee regularly is when in reality they were making good money at 2.3%z It's all a big scam. They don't even tell the businesses that the 4% is considered revenue and sales so the business has to pay sales tax and income tax on that extra 4% of revenue. If you are a business doing it you should negotiate that 3.86% they come in an charge you behind the 4% down to 3% so you actually make an extra % in profit as your charge for having to play the front man to your customers for the processing companies cash grab.

I have started paying cash and in many places you nit only save the CC surcharge but you can also save the government surcharge. Or so I’m told.
