Ladies and Gentlemen of the FDB, I need a good bun. A good hamburger bun that is. What is your go-to with a typical burger? I imagine the ingredients on the burger make a difference in the selection, would love to hear your thoughts on combinations with cheeses/ingredients on the burger itself. I tried a sourdough with cheddar jack, bacon, onion, tomato, lettuce, pickles tonight and the bun flavor took away from the other ingredients. Appreciate any insights you may offer.

I'll never understand eating raw onions and lettuce on a burger. It completely ruins it.

I'm a brioche bun person, but it is polarizing because it can thin out/fall apart depending on the burger toppings and juiciness.

Potato buns were the gold standard in chef-y media for a long time, and I like them.

If it’s just like a normal cookout at the house, nothing fancy:

This is how I feel about tomatoes on a hamburger

If a tomato has touched the burger, I send it back every time.

It’s a simple request, no tomato, and its the only time I become an a-hole and send it back.

I don’t mind lettuce, and I absolutely love raw onions on my burger 100% of the time

Potato or brioche bun. Butter and toast it.

Maybe not every time, but a pretzel bun is also pretty good...

Mrs. Baird`s from Sam`s. You get like 16 for under $3.50, they are soft and will last a long time freshness wise. There was also some with a green label that were good there. Can`t remember the name.

We use Dave’s too. Very good and hold up well to the grease from a smash burger.

Surprisingly, the Walmart bakery aisle Brioche buns are excellent. Don’t go down the bread aisle, stay in the bakery.
