Half Shell Oyster House Lafayette

I’ve been to the one in Biloxi many times, and thoroughly enjoyed my meal there. Has anyone had any experiences, good or bad, at the Lafayette location. Kind of an odd spot smack in the middle of a strip mall.

Maybe the worst restaurant meal I have ever experienced was at the Half Shell in Biloxi.
The food was cold and they seated us within four feet of the kitchen door. Very noisy with cursing and yelling and the damn door opening every thirty seconds.
I hated myself for not getting up and leaving even before our food came. When the food came, I really hated myself. Tasted like it had been on the counter for 15 minutes, waiting for someone to order it.
Oh well, at least I have had the worst meal, regardless of what I experience in the future. Sad thing is we could have gone to Mary Mahoney's - which we both love.

You can find the same dishes that taste much better at many places in lafayette.

Have eaten at Gulfport and Covington locations. Thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered.
I would eat again in a heartbeat and recommend to others.

Are there once. Raw oysters were gritty, and the royal reds were so overcooked I could hardly peel them.

I will say (there is one in Jackson), they seem to do just fine without my business, or probably the business from everyone on TD, so I don't feel bad about letting other folks go and staying away. IMO, there is better value for my money in other places.

Been 3 or 4 times and was satisfied every time. Fish was good. Shrimp were good.
At the advice of a friend, I got the steak once, and really enjoyed it.
Pre-COVID, Friday and Saturday night wait times were pretty healthy, with the crowd spilling out onto the sidewalk consistently.

Once, it was as good as many I’ve had and better than others.
Southern Pearl in BR is the same chain but they could not the name here. I’ve eaten at that location several times pre & post Covid. Never disappointed yet.

Not sure what people find appealing about that place. I tried it a few times when he opened up the original in Gulfport. It’s not very good... people are paying to eat a bunch of sysco shite.
Ordered a fish dish with lump crab on top.... it wasn’t even claw meat. To be honest it tasted like sheepshead, the “crab meat” not fish. Asked about it and got an awful response from the manager and waiter and haven’t been since.
It’s been a while, but I can’t remember if he is the guy that owned Salute or High Cotton in Gulfport/Biloxi when he first started.

Ironically when the owner announced they were coming to lafayette he more or less shite on Lafayette’s food scene and said they were going to be offering something on a different level

What an arse, I'd love to see the list of places in Lafayette they toured where they determined they'd automatically be the best thing in town.

My wife and I went to the Gulfport location once. Smelled like mop water in there. We ordered chargrilled oysters...saw the guy reach into fridge where they had the days allotment of oysters already shucked and stacked in trays, the whole fridge by the grill.
I’m not acting like I know how kitchens should work for oysters, but it was off putting to say the least. They do that last night as side work?
If a Vietnamese restaurant smells like sewer it’s likely going to be good, if an oyster house does it’s scary.
