Kind of fun to have that first cold front coming through and you fire up a gumbo.

All weather is gumbo weather. I’ll make one on January 24 or July 24. If I’m in the mood, I’ll cook it.

I will eat it anytime of the year, but I’m not cooking it in the summer months.
For Jazzfest in Nola, I don’t care how hot it is, the gumbo is the first thing I get every year.

We’re pretty much the same way.

I’ll eat spaghetti but I’m not a fan of gumbo, soups, or chili during the summer
I also rarely eat ice cream in the winter
No one else in my family is like this, I’m the oddball

Seasonal food traditions aren't a bad thing. Sure, you could eat gumbo or whatever any time of the year. But it's not the same as sitting at the table playing cards with your grandparents in a warm kitchen and helping them cook a big pot of hot gumbo when it's getting chilly outside.

Tell them to crank their AC down.

I cook and eat gumbo whenever I feel like it and not determined by the weather. Yes, it is a great cold weather meal but my take is this.
Same here.

I agree with your friends. I only cook gumbo when it's cool outside.

My home is the same temperature year round

Mine is too for the most part. It's cooler in the Fall and Winter when it's colder outside. I don't use much heat unless the house gets below 60.

. Yeah I get half a century ago when air conditioning wasn’t as good and the house would be heated from cooking all day. But now?
It's funny the difference between the south vs. other states. They had a massive thread on Reddit the other day about what to cook when you can't use the oven or stove (due to heat) and I internally was like ????? Oven/stove usage has never done anything significant to the temperature in my house.
They had people in there saying they put their crockpot OUTSIDE. Like the crockpot is heating the house up.
EDIT - I do agree that gumbo and chili are far more cozy in cool weather. I haven't made gumbo since winter, so I guess subconsciously I mostly do it when it is cold. But I'm not opposed to it.

Uh, summer time is peak tomato season. If you wait until cold weather you'll be forced to used hot house or canned tomatoes. No bueno.

I'll cook/eat it anytime, but like most soups and stews, it is extra good when it is cold outside.

That’s a Midwest thing. Where I’m from in Minnesota a lot of the older farm houses don’t have central ac. So using the stove/oven heats the house up and it takes forever to cool it back down.
