Government Taco is closing at the end of the month. What the heck happened? Food was good even after JayD left. Anyone have any insight?

Barracuda down the street isn't helping them
It's better food

No surprise really. Food is overpriced and honestly terrible. Went about a year ago and spent way too much money on small, bland tacos.

That should be no surprise to anyone.

The drinks kept that business afloat. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did though. Dry tacos. Way too imaginative on some of their taco selections as well.

As mentioned above, Barracuda is a much better option for both quality and price. It doesn't help that they're basically competing next door to Superior.

I was never impressed with the food there. Yes, Barricuda is a much better option.

I never went after they moved from White Star. They have to have been struggling for a while though. There is never anyone in their parking lot.

White Star.

Was this concept before its time or is Baton Rouge just not the ideal market for this type of entertainment and dining?

Mostly just bad timing. Covid killed it more than anything else. I liked White Star Market and ate at several places there regularly.

My biggest issues with the place was parking could sometimes be a struggle (though street parking was available not too far away), and the acoustics inside were too loud even for a food hall. They needed to add some additional acoustic treatment to dampen the echoes in there. It made it difficult to carry on a conversation with the person at your table.

Covid didnt help White Star and when people left to open and brick and morter they didnt do a good job replacing them

I believe so. The concept could work around the medical area of Essen or bluebonnet. Put it near a place where people are moving for lunch and have enough parking. I think it would work for lunch, but probably not so much dinner.

Good. It wasnt good any more. Rock paper taco much better. And now there is another taco place with better outdoor area right down government.

Government Taco is a ghost town.

What the hell happened?

There wasn’t even a bartender there at 5:00 on a Friday!
I’ll often pass by at peak hours and it’s reliably deserted.

Food seems decent enough
People like to complain about $5 tacos but they sure as hell eat $15 wraps at Beer Garden or $20 entrees at Elsie’s. Superior has always been really expensive but they’re packed every weekend.

I will say this. The booths had crumbs on the tables and seats. But why? It’s inexcusable.

What gives?

Wife and I went for an early dinner about 6 months ago (around 5pm). We were the only customers. Still took them 45 min to only bring out half the order. I sent back the fish taco because it was stone cold in the middle.

I am hoping this does not affect Cypress Coast
